As a member of SaskPower\'s Finance team, this position is responsible for supporting all aspects of analysis including calculating financial metrics (net present value, levelized cost of energy, IRR, etc.) assessing macroeconomic impacts of projects, and measuring the impact these projects have on SaskPower\'s net income and electricity rates charged to customers. An understanding of treasury instruments (debt, commodity swaps and foreign exchange) is also beneficial in this role. As a member of SaskPower\'s management team, this position is responsible to act as a central point of contact in the management and administration of strategic and operational functions, providing expert advice and direction that aligns with departmental and corporate goals and objectives.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Perform financial analysis of capital projects, most often related to the selection of new generation options. Most reviews assess the financial impact a project will have on SaskPower\'s balance sheet and customer base.
  • Independent financial review of various business units\' proposed projects including both operational and capital projects
  • Analyze the impacts of projects on the Saskatchewan economy
  • Support strategic planning (power generation, rate impacts, net-zero energy transition) and provide financial analysis to support Executive and Government decision-making
  • Act as a subject matter expert in a specialized function to develop, implement, and assist in the analysis and interpretation of corporate policies and customer programs; providing advice that is appropriate, practical and consistent with relevant governance and/or industry standards
  • Perform financial analysis on federal funding instruments
  • Develop financial modelling using MS Excel
  • Analyze project risks and assist with corporate Risk Management
  • Ensure strategic alignment with the departmental and corporate business plan
  • Represent the department and prepare and present material to internal and external audiences as required
  • Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to SaskPower\'s operational environment
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Commerce, or other related equivalent AND/OR;
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation AND/OR;
  • Five (5) years of related experience performing financial analysis
  • Team player with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships both internal and external to SaskPower
  • Strong attention to detail; high degree of accuracy and precision; able to successfully manage multiple concurrent activities; commitment to deliver high quality work
  • Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
  • Ability to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation and teamwork
  • Demonstrated skill in SaskPower\'s competencies
  • Must have a continuing record of professional development
