DESCRIPTION:

Are you a motivated and detail-oriented environmental professional looking for your next challenge in environmental consulting? We are currently seeking candidates to fill a senior Consultant position in our Ecotoxicology Laboratory. In this role, you will apply your knowledge and skills in ecotoxicity testing to generate client-specific data and provide novel solutions to real-time applied challenges faced by industry, government, and municipalities. As a Consultant, you will communicate directly with clients to be the lead in designing, analyzing, and interpreting projects tailored to the client's needs. You will also act as a liaison between Nautilus clients, the Laboratory Managers and Senior Management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

There is a physical component to the position that will involve standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours).

Examples of Scope of Work (Consultant):



Design and oversee ecotoxicity testing studies with fish, plants and invertebrates. Schedule and coordinate testing, and review toxicity test reports. Explore business opportunities to secure new clients and maintain/develop strong client relationships. Identify growth opportunities through market research and technological developments. Provide guidance and information in response to client questions and requests. Prepare quotations and proposals. Review or conduct statistical analysis and interpret test data. Maintain up-to-date budgets for all managed projects. Ensure testing is completed on time and on budget. Participate in invoice preparation, review and approval. Assist/mentor Project Biologists/Project Managers with report reviews/editing. Perform all tasks in a manner that supports Nautilus's Quality Assurance Program.

QUALIFICATIONS



This position requires a 1) M.Sc. in Environmental or Aquatic Toxicology, or other closely related discipline and ten (10) years of applied experience in environmental consulting;

OR

2) Ph.D. in Environmental or Aquatic Toxicology, or other closely related discipline and five (5) years of applied experience in environmental consulting. Should a candidates' qualifications exceed the listed minimums, a higher level within the consultant role, along with commensurate compensation, will be considered. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of ecotoxicology theory and practical application. The successful candidate should also be familiar with a variety of toxicity test methods, including those published by ISO, US EPA, OECD or Environment and Climate Change Canada. Knowledge of supporting analytical requirements for ecotoxicity methods (i.e., physical/chemical characteristics and other water quality aspects that influence bioavailability and bioaccumulation) is essential. An understanding of Canadian provincial and federal regulatory requirements for ecotoxicity testing would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate will be a creative thinker with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. They will also have well-developed decision-making abilities and excellent technical and scientific writing skills. A proven track record of producing quality peer-reviewed publications or industry reports is a must. A solid understanding of applied ecotoxicology and risk assessment with demonstrated expertise in ecotoxicology/ risk assessment specific to at least one of the following areas is also a requirement: inorganic chemistry (e.g., petroleum hydrocarbons, oil sands), metal speciation chemistry (i.e., empirical knowledge and hands-on ability to use modelling software programs such as MINTEQ, WHAM, BLM), and bioavailability.

As an essential member of our team, working flexible hours may be required at times to meet project deadlines. The successful candidate must also have a willingness to work professionally in a team environment and have a commitment to high-quality output and overall team success. Occasional travel for strategic planning, business development, industry meetings, and conferences will be required (approximately 2-4 times per year). Occasional work from home days is offered.

Expected Compensation: Dependent upon qualifications but salary range will be $85,000 - 125,000 per year.
