Your Opportunity:

Policy Services is a team within the Health Professions Strategy & Practice (HPSP) provincial portfolio led by the VP, Health Professions, People and IT. Policy Services supports quality healthcare for patients and families by working provincially to ensure policies support all aspects of patient care and business support functions with Alberta Health Services. Policy offers direction and strategic, expert advice, consultation, project management, leadership and support to groups across AHS in the development of AHS policy documents, both clinical and corporate. The Policy team provides leadership and education using a collaborative approach to enable the development and implementation of complex provincial projects. The Advisor, Policy Services reports to the Director, Policy Services and can be located anywhere in the province. This position is also eligible to work in office or remotely.

Description:

The Policy Advisor acts as an expert in AHS\' Policy Development Framework. They are responsible and accountable for providing direction and strategic, expert advice, consultation, project management, leadership and support to stakeholders (including senior leaders) across AHS in the development of AHS policy documents. Working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, the Policy Advisor ensures AHS policy is developed in compliance with AHS\' Policy Development Framework. The Advisor contributes to the strategic direction of the Health Professions, Strategy and Practice Portfolio and AHS by supporting AHS stakeholders to develop policy that aligns with AHS initiatives and strategies and through involvement in various quality and process improvement work. Key areas of accountability include leading and co-leading the development of policy documents in collaboration with project lead and sponsor; collaborating and engaging with key groups across AHS (leadership, clinicians, legal counsel, colleagues, and the Director of Policy Services) to build consensus, mediate conflict and negotiate solutions to policy-related issues; responding to internal and external inquiries and requests; project management and tracking multiple projects along the policy development cycle; and working with the policy team to advance innovative and creative solutions and processes that support the policy team and AHS.

Required Qualifications:

A health-related or policy-related degree is required (Masters preferred), or a combination of education and experience will be considered. Experience in a policy support role, preferably in healthcare and ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity is required. High level skill in Word, Outlook, and MS Teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

A health-related or policy-related Masters degree is preferred. An active practice permit with the regulatory College of a health profession in Alberta is a valued asset.
