Job Purpose



The Construction Work Leader supervises the construction, operation, maintenance, modification, and servicing of electrical distribution installations, including overhead, underground and distribution substations.

Duties



Leadership

Lead, train, and motivate construction team members Resolve disagreements among team members Initiate and conduct regular team member performance reviews
Construction Coordination and System Maintenance

Co-ordinate and supervise the work of a construction team Organize job plan and communicate this plan clearly to construction team to ensure construction deadlines are met Change old framing of structures to today's construction standards Re-route lines or moving line for members and EQUS' convenience Contact other utilities about construction in the vicinity of their equipment or property Maintain detailed list of all material used on the job for job costing purposes Plan jobs to ensure maximum amount of work can be completed on outages Review all work with office personnel to properly charge out labour and material Trouble shoot and repair underground systems Investigate trouble with the operation of distribution equipment and repair as required Test and replace damaged equipment or apparatus that cannot be repaired on-site Must participate in the Corporate Safety Program, including but not limited to: completing safe work plans, completing log books, following work alone procedure, and following safe work practices and safe job procedures Must be available for on call rotation
Member and Third-Party Relations

Contact members and electricians to advise them of construction timetables and projected completion dates to minimize outage time Member service - exceeding member expectations in the areas of complaints and inquiries

Review and Approval of Work



This position reports to the Field Services Leader.

Job Requirements and Qualifications



Journeyman Power Lineperson Certificate (Red Seal) Valid class 3 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract and a Q air endorsement First Aid and CPR Certification, WHIMIS Understanding of the requirements of the Electrical Utility Code pertinent to the field of power line construction Knowledge and experience in the operation of heavy equipment Skilled in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the trade Capable of performing field repairs Ability to successfully complete pre-employment testing of the physical requirements of the position
Education and Experience

Previous supervisory experience an asset At least two years of related construction experience preferred Must have crew experience, including a demonstrated ability to communicate with crew members and to be able to easily comprehend and follow instructions. Must work well with others. Previous experience in rural power distribution system operations an asset
