Job Summary

Our large Oil & Gas client is seeking a Construction Superintendent II to work in their Ontario location on a 1-year contract.

API 653 knowledge or certification is strongly preferred. Safety knowledge/experience with a Behaviour Based Safety Program is essential. Can be located in Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton.

The majority of responsibility of this position will be the day-to-day field safety leadership and to drive loss-free execution of all field activities on assigned projects. The other part will be as an advisor for project execution coordination, effectiveness and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide a strong safety leadership presence to maintain a consistent focus on the LPS Behaviour Based Safety Program through visible (minimum 80%) field presence, participate in contractor safety meetings, toolbox talks.
  • Develop, promote and achieve a positive and productive team atmosphere between CFO Projects, Operations and Contractors to establish and align on common priorities, goals, and objectives.
  • Participate in development and quality review of JLAs and work procedures with Prime Contractor
  • Issue and verify compliance with safe work permits and work procedures/standards with special focus on higher risk work
  • Support all loss and near loss investigations.
  • Work with Integrated Project Team to safely and efficiently achieve all project objectives set out in the Project Execution and Project Safety Plans.
  • Provide field execution leadership to drive the safe, productive and cost-effective management of all project-related activities at the site level.
  • Participate in Prime Contractor kick-off meetings
  • Participate in Constructability and Facility Design / Model reviews with the Integrated Project Team
  • Comply with all business controls, including time sheet endorsements and materials management.
  • Endorse all field deviation notices that differ from original scope/quote.
  • Keep all personal training (computer-based or other requirements) and required certifications current.
  • Maintain a daily activities project log documenting key day-to-day activities, issues and resolution decisions made in the field.
  • Provide early identification of emerging issues to the Project Manager, including options and resolution recommendations.
  • Report daily the key SSH&E events, construction progress and productivity.
  • This role requires frequent travel to multiple locations across Canada for extended durations, including periodic weekend stay-overs.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years trade experience at a journeyman level
  • API 653 knowledge or certification, with a mechanical trades background is strongly preferred
  • Safety knowledge/experience with a Behaviour Based Safety Program is a must have
  • Strong safety culture as demonstrated through past safe work experiences
  • Proven ability to plan work in detail and develop safe work procedures
  • Demonstrated field supervisory oversight over 5-25 person crews, from planning and start of construction through to commissioning and start-up
  • Experience overseeing multi-discipline projects including:
  • Mechanical: piping, tanks, rotating equipment and overseeing 3rd party inspections)
  • Civil: structural steel and supports, concrete foundations, earthwork, screw piles, crane operation
  • Electrical and instrumentation (PLC programming, wiring, controls, installations)
  • API653 tank maintenance, inspection, and repairs
  • Pipelines installation and Horizontal Directional Drilling
  • Commissioning and Start-up
  • Working knowledge of opening process equipment, cranes and lifting, confined space entry, working at heights, safe electrical work, energy isolation, and tank cleaning
  • Experience in successfully applying injury case management and related notification protocols
  • Strong communications skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to follow\xe2\x80\x93up, resolve and close issues and tasks promptly
  • NCSO/CSS or equivalent safety skills designation an asset
  • Fuel distribution terminal operational knowledge an asset
  • Experience issuing work permits an asset
  • Possession of or eligible to obtain a passport and pass a background check
