Job Overview
The Construction Safety Officer (CSO) plays a critical role in upholding Cressey's safety-first culture on active construction sites. The CSO is responsible for implementing and enforcing site-specific safety programs, monitoring compliance with legislation, and proactively identifying and mitigating risks. This is a hands-on role ideal for a safety professional who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Site Safety Compliance and Monitoring
Monitor daily on-site safety practices to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and company standards.
Conduct site-specific orientations for new workers and visitors.
Participate in site inspections and audits, documenting findings and following up on corrective actions.
Lead daily and weekly toolbox meetings to reinforce safety practices and address emerging risks.
Support development and maintenance of site safety documentation, including hazard assessments, risk mitigation plans, and emergency procedures.
Incident Management and Reporting
Respond to and document incidents, near misses, and injuries in a timely and accurate manner.
Administer first aid as needed and manage related records.
Assist with incident investigations and support return-to-work processes when applicable.
Liaise with WorkSafeBC representatives and support any regulatory inspections or requests.
Collaboration and Support
Work closely with Site Superintendent and trades to promote a proactive safety culture.
Participate in site planning and coordination meetings to anticipate and mitigate upcoming risks.
Assist with the development and testing of emergency response and rescue plans.
Maintain accurate records of certifications, inspections, and contractor documentation.
Perform other health and safety-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
3-5 years of experience in a construction safety role.
Certified Construction Safety Officer and valid Occupational First Aid Level 3 required. NCSO or OFA Level 2 with transport endorsement may be considered.
Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, policies, and industry best practices.
Proven ability to maintain detailed records and documentation.
Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
Access to a reliable vehicle and willingness to travel to job sites.
High level of integrity and professional conduct in all situations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to influence others and promote a strong safety culture.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Adaptable, with a continuous improvement mindset.

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
