About Us

The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia\'s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways and 4,100 bridges. We are looking to expand our leadership team, and have an exciting opportunity available for a Construction Manager in Antigonish. This is your opportunity to make high impact decisions regarding the safe, timely and cost-effective delivery of individual projects and overall highway infrastructure in the Province.

About Our Opportunity

You will provide a high standard of engineering expertise and innovative best practices when providing guidance and construction advice for field staff. You will recommend rehabilitation methods, provide cost estimates, and ensure all field generated plans produced are in accordance with Department and Industry standards, as well as Federal and Provincial Acts and Regulations.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Construction Manager, you will execute capital highway and bridge construction and rehabilitation, as well as lead all construction work carried out by private contractors and government staff associated with those projects throughout Eastern District. We have many exciting projects and developments on the horizon and we require your expertise in ensuring all projects are completed safely and within policies, specifications, regulations, and budgets. You are ultimately responsible for all Department employees, contractor personnel, and the safe passage of the motoring public through the various construction sites. You will work closely with staff at all levels and in various divisions of the Department, providing advice and input into Department-wise issues.

Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering and eligibility for membership to Engineers Nova Scotia as licensed to practice, is required. You also have several years of progressive technical and practical experience in road and bridge construction and rehabilitation.

Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is an essential component of this position; you are responsible for the safety of staff and the traveling public throughout work sites. Computer proficiency is necessary. Knowledge of the Department\'s policies and procedures would be considered an asset.

This position involves travel throughout the Province; a valid driver\'s license and daily access to a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.

This is a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines and competing priorities; your ability to multi-task and adapt is critical to your success. You are an inspiring and motivational team leader with experience managing staff performance and building interpersonal relationships. You consistently maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service excellence. Your financial experience managing budgets and solid project management expertise are needed for the success of various highway/bridge construction and maintenance projects.

Pay Grade: EC 13

Salary Range: $3,918.14 - $4,897.66 Bi-Weekly
