Job Description


Progesys Inc. is a recognized firm offering complete solutions for project management and transition to operations. The company has been based in Laval (Canada) since 2002 and has offices in the United States, the Middle East, Asia, and South America.

Progesys is looking for a Construction Manager for a mining project in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Construction Manager will be responsible for all construction activities including planning, execution, control, and closeout.

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in the constructability review with an external engineering company
  • Review engineering batches and develop and optimize construction lot definition
  • Review the construction cost estimate and ensure that the estimates are on budget
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of construction costs in relation to the progress of the work
  • Implement construction management procedures, including change order management, quality management, work acceptance management, site closure, impairment management and contract closure
  • Review, provide advice and approve prepared schedules (Level 2 to Level 4) and track milestones
  • Ensure contractors meet construction schedule
  • Develop, in collaboration with the purchasing department, a strategy for negotiating and awarding contracts with contractors and optimize it in order to reduce costs and turnaround times
  • Ensure that all necessary building permits are obtained to begin work
  • Review/comment/approve construction strategies, plans, statements of activities and methods, procedures, documents related to the construction process
  • Participate in the tendering process, including all communications with contractors
  • Review construction site safety programs
  • Organize, coordinate, monitor and manage all construction activities on the site.
  • Coordinate with the HSE manager to ensure the implementation of the HSE plan
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the external environmental management team
  • Ensure that all activities and construction progress are consistent with contractors\' scope, budget, and schedule
  • Ensure the schedule is updated weekly, develop a mitigation plan if necessary
  • Ensure that progress reports are properly submitted and that the format and content comply with the company\'s requirements and standards
  • Oversee all contract administration activities
  • Lead and guide project staff by defining construction management responsibilities
  • Follow up on the issuance and approval of shop drawings
  • Set up a system allowing the efficient execution of the work, and which will be followed by all Contractors
  • Ensure proper management of materials and equipment as well as the cleanliness of the site
  • Ensure that security and access to the site are well organized
  • Assist the company in coordinating activities with other relevant parties
  • Site performance management, implementation of corrective measures.
  • Oversee the quality management system, including document control, impairment management, equipment approval and transfer processes.
  • Ensure that all change orders and site instructions are correctly completed
  • Oversee the quality management system, including document control and transfer of all required documents.
  • Oversee the closing processes of the contract administration.
  • Manage labour relations
  • Ensure the identification of issues that could impact construction costs, schedule, quality, health, safety, or the environment
  • Provide technical advice, interpretation, and assistance, as required, on issues related to construction activities
  • Ensure that all members of the construction team understand the scope of the project and the technical requirements
  • Cooperate closely with the company to manage and coordinate work-related interfaces
  • Cooperate with government authorities on issues related to construction activities
  • Provide effective communication channels and appropriate links with all parties
  • Review and approve the management plan for mobile cranes and lifting devices prepared by the contractor
  • Ensure good general logistics of the site.
Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or any other relevant field (Required)
  • Minimum 15-20 years of experience in a similar position (Required)
  • Experience in mining projects
  • Excellent communicator
  • Demonstrate initiative and autonomy
  • Good time and priority management
