University of Calgary Continuing Education (ContEd)
is currently recruiting for
non-credit instructors (contract (term) position)
to teach Construction Management Courses for the International Professional Programs (IPP) in the
2025-2026 academic year.
In support of the University of Calgary's core principles and financial objectives, Continuing Education is an academic unit with a mandate to respond to the needs of the community through the design, development and delivery of high-quality lifelong learning opportunities.
Each year, ContEd serves over 20,000 adult learners and offers more than one thousand courses taught by hundreds of instructors' all experts in their fields. It is expected to fund, through revenue generation, the majority of its operational costs while contributing financially to the university.
The success of the University of Calgary Continuing Education in meeting its business target in a competitive environment is dependent upon effectively serving students and by providing high-quality instruction and programs. The International Professional Program (IPP) is made up of three streams of 12-months duration plus a Work-Integrated Learning term, comprised of professional certificate and diploma programs sourced from the Continuing Education Domestic Programming portfolio. IPP courses are scheduled for full-time international students and delivered
in-person
at the University of Calgary
Downtown Campus.

These instructional positions are non-credit teaching appointments and, as such, are contract positions without benefits (other than those required by Employment Standards).

BMC 102 Construction Contract Law and Documents
BMC 110 Construction Costing
BMC 243 Control Systems In Construction Projects
BMC 395 Contract Management: Managing Change, Claims, and Disputes on Projects
Scope of Responsibilities (high level)
Create effective lesson plans, and develop content, learning activities, presentations, assignments, evaluations.
Utilize Desire2Learn (D2L) for all course materials and student communication
Utilize Zoom to facilitate any synchronous live sessions with activities (where applicable)
Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent and work experience in the Construction field is required.
Previous experience teaching adult learners is essential; post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.
Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) designation, if applicable
Previous experience utilizing e-learning tools (LMS, video conferencing tools, etc.) such as Desire2Learn, Blackboard, Moodle, Zoom, or similar is preferred
Adult Teaching and Learning Certificate or equivalent is an asset
Industry experience with the ability to illustrate your teaching with real life examples.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students in a diverse, international learning environment.
Ability to teach in person at the University of Calgary Downtown Campus, with the flexibility to use online platforms for supplementary course delivery.
