The Position
: The Foreperson is the onsite supervisor for all assigned members of their designated crew. This role is the Company's ambassador to the general public, the owner, our customer, testing agencies, government agencies, sub-contractors and suppliers. As the senior site employee of the Company, the Foreperson is expected to act and behave responsibly and professionally, to safely execute the work in an expeditious and efficient manner and to ensure that all work completed meets with the customer's expectation. This is a skilled position requiring the incumbent to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in operating machinery and performing construction tasks.
Requirements:
Thorough understanding of the construction industry including the knowledge to read and understand construction drawings.
Have proficient knowledge of road and underground utility construction techniques
Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
Has an understanding of grades, and ensures proper drainage when milling is complete.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required;
Thorough understanding of the construction industry including the knowledge to read and understand construction drawings.
Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills and attributes.
A valid British Columbia Driver's License with a Code 20 Trailer endorsement or equivalent license.
Be able to work overtime when required.
Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
Ability to keep time and material records.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
1. Safety
Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with Mainland's Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation
Ensure that pre-work meeting is held with all crew members present, discuss potential hazards, mitigation strategies, and complete THINK forms
Ensure that equipment operators have completed pre-trip inspections on all equipment and collect/submit forms
2. Daily Project Tasks
Review and understand all pertinent project documents (drawings, work order, MMCD and project specifications)
Assign tasks to all crew members, provide technical direction as required
Review production targets for the day
Review the entire site strategizing the most efficient way to achieve days production goals and measure work area on a daily basis
Organizes job site goals, timelines and budgets.
Orders required supplies and materials.
Assists with heavy equipment operation, if trained, as needed at job site locations.
Communicate with superintendent any deviation from schedule
Assign tasks to all crew members, provide technical direction as required
Constantly assess work for quality and correct issues as possible
Advise superintendent of any quality concerns
Understand scope of contracted work, review days phase codes
Complete Extra Work Order if required with customer sign off
Accurately complete field log in B2W Track platform, including detailed notes on any items which may affect invoicing (ie. site delays)
Ensure time card entries are completed accurately before Monday morning payroll deadlines
Liaison with the customer onsite to ensure expectations are being met
Review traffic management plan, coordinate works with lead traffic control person as required
3. Leadership
Adhere to and enforce Mainland's Respectful Workplace Policy
Mentor new employees, ensure that new employees are properly qualified to undertake assigned task
Create and maintain a positive and supportive culture on crew
De-escalate incidents and report to superintendent
Ensure job site is maintained in a safe and orderly manner
