ESTIMATOR



Downs McGovern is a general contractor based in Montreal, executing work throughout Canada and the United States. We are currently looking for a Construction Estimator.

SUMMARY



Reporting to the Construction Manager and working in collaboration with colleagues in his/her department, the estimator is responsible for estimates and budget proposals for construction projects in which the company has an interest.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES



The Estimator will assist/assume, among others, the following tasks:

Analyze tender documents (plans, specifications, addenda, drawings, general and special conditions);

Participate in tender visits, ask pertinent questions, take photos;

Evaluate the list of required specialties, define and divide scopes of work by discipline, proceed with invitations to tender;

Follow up and maintain good relations with various current and potential suppliers and subcontractors;

Survey quantities and estimate costs of materials, labor and equipment required for project execution, as well as associated logistics;

Validate availability of necessary resources;

Review and validate subcontractor bids;

Actively participate in final bid review;

Analyze bid results and make constructive suggestions to optimize the company's competitiveness;

Participate in the regular updating of databases;

Assist project managers with various tasks : validating quantities; ordering materials; technical data sheets and shop drawings; negotiating contracts; finding suppliers and subcontractors;

During "design build" projects, analyzing design options and recommending the best solutions, taking into consideration cost, quality and logistics;

Keeping abreast of work in progress, taking part in project post-mortems, applying lessons learned;

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE



Minimum 5 years' experience in the construction industry in commercial and institutional estimating

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS



Excellent organizational and planning skills;

Meticulous, rigor and a developed analytical mind;

Acquired methodology;

Good knowledge of the

Quebec Construction Code

as well as all laws and authorities having jurisdiction in

Quebec

;

Have a good sense of priorities;

Comfortable working under pressure;

Oral and written communication in English and French mandatory;

Excellent computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word Outlook, etc.)

Document preparation skills: grammar, vocabulary, formatting;

Experience with SOFTWARES

Ability to solve problems and find solutions;

Be professional and have a very good work ethic;

EDUCATION



DEC - Architecture or Estimating or;

AEC - Construction and Renovation Estimating or:

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering or:

Any other combination of education and experience relevant to the position.
