The TTC\'s recruitment efforts are directly aligned to its mission of providing "a reliable, efficient, and integrated bus, streetcar and subway system that draws its high standards of customer care from our rich traditions of safety, service and courtesy."Career OpportunityCome join our team at this exciting time and apply for the Construction Environmental Specialist opportunity!What You Will DoReporting to the Senior Construction Safety Officer, this position is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of ECE (Engineering, Construction & Expansion) Group\'s environmental programs in support of all TTC\'s Capital Projects. The incumbent will develop, implement, and execute the environmental program all construction projects, as well as extend support in all project phases. You will also provide subject matter expertise regarding environmental programs, matters, preventive measures and legislative requirements. The incumbent will demonstrate behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment and help to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC\'s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC\'s policies. You will be required to participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
Some night shift and/or weekend work required. Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines or in case of emergencies.What Skills Do You Bring?

  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to prepare and present detailed reports on environmental site observations, as well as develop and deliver of environmental awareness training.
  • Ability to analyse statistical data to determine trends and develop preventative actions for environmental protection.
  • Use office technology, software and applications.
  • Strong understanding of incident investigation and accident prevention techniques.
What Qualifications Do You Bring?
  • Completion of a degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Planning, or a related discipline combined with directly related work experience in the environmental field or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or have an Environmental Professional designation in the Province of Ontario.
  • Experience in contractor environmental management, preferably in the construction/transportation sector.
  • Experience interacting with environmental regulatory agencies in managing regulatory compliance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of science or a related discipline combined with comprehensive knowledge of environmental principles and practices, applicable governing legislation, codes and standards that include the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Environmental Protection Act, Construction Projects related CSA Standards and ISO 14001.
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated comprehension of environmental regulations, industry practices and management systems to establish strong safety culture and environmental practices.
  • Expert knowledge of construction environmental legislative requirements and industry processes, specific to the Province of Ontario and transit environment, related to management of spills, dust, waste, erosion and sedimentation control, noise, vibration, tree protection, and waste water.
  • Must have the ability to perform duties in all seasons and weather conditions in the field, including all parts of the property which may include: walking through construction sites, exposure to rough terrain/track, entering confined spaces, climbing ladders, scaffolds, catwalks, etc.
