Construction Environmental Manager

:




The Construction Environmental Manager is responsible to oversee and manage environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives by ensuring all activities align with environmental regulations, support sustainable construction practices, and drive the continuous development and implementation of the ISO 14001-certified Environmental Program.

How will you contribute to the team?:





To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:


Continuously monitor and enhance the Environmental Program, integrating emerging trends, legislative changes, industry practices, and business needs. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation. Schedule and coordinate internal and external environmental audits to maintain ISO 14001 certification and project compliance. Support project teams through all phases--design, planning, construction, and operations--to ensure environmental considerations are integrated throughout. Collaborate with consultants and project teams to manage environmental obligations, providing necessary tools and training to ensure effective implementation. Coordinate the preparation and submission of environmental permit applications. Monitor the environmental program to ensure ongoing compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements. Assist subcontractors and suppliers in closing gaps in their environmental programs. Lead follow-up activities from inspections, ensuring timely implementation of required actions. Investigate environmental incidents, prepare reports, liaise with MECP and consultants, and ensure corrective measures are implemented. Manage stakeholder engagement across a range of internal and external parties. Provide technical expertise in sustainability, climate change, net-zero planning, and energy efficiency. Support initiatives around sustainable resource use, material efficiency, and circular economy principles. Prepare and present performance updates and progress reports on environmental, sustainability, and energy outcomes. Coordinate environmental training and awareness programs for staff. Manage environmental team personnel, providing day-to-day direction and performance feedback. Support the Director of Environmental & Quality Services in advancing corporate initiatives and strategic goals.



Education and Experience:


University degree or college diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. 5-10+ years of professional experience in environmental management, ideally within large, complex infrastructure programs in operational environments. Experience working on aviation or transit infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset. Proven background in sustainability and ESG practices, including Net Zero strategies, climate risk assessment and management, energy management, materials efficiency, and circular economy principles. Direct experience in the implementation and management of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS). ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification is preferred.

Working Conditions:




Office and site-based position. When on site, personal protective equipment (i.e. hard hat, safety boots) required at all times.
