Construction Document Controller

Job Description

The Construction Document Controller is responsible for managing all project-related documentation, ensuring the field team has the most current and accurate set of drawings and specifications. This role acts as the central point of contact for all drawing-related communications between the design/engineering team and the construction crew.

Responsibilities (not limited to):

Reporting to the Project Manager - the Construction Document Controller will:



Document Management:



Receive, review, log, and distribute all project documentation (drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, contracts, reports, etc.).

Organize, scan, and archive all project drawings, revisions, and related documents in a central, easily accessible location.

Maintain version control to ensure that the latest documents are accessible to project teams and stakeholders.

Quality Control:



Perform quality control on all documents to ensure they meet company standards and are accurate before distribution.

Ensure drawings meet customer specifications, and are in accordance with all applicable project codes and standards.

Track document revisions, approvals, and submission deadlines.

Conduct regular audits to ensure document control procedures are being followed.

Communication Liaison:



Serve as the primary point of contact between the construction crew and the design team to clarify technical details, resolve issues, and answer questions about the drawings.

Build positive relations with internal and external customers.

Support project teams with document retrieval, updates, and transmittals.

Digital File Management:



Maintain a clean and organized digital filing system, ensuring proper version control to prevent errors and conflicts.

Train project staff on document control procedures and systems.

Technical Support:



Assist the construction crew with accessing and understanding digital and scanned documents, and help troubleshoot issues that arise in the field.

Distribution:



Distribute new and revised documents to the appropriate parties, tracking who has received what.

Qualifications:

Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

Minimum 2-5 years experience in document control within the construction or engineering industries.

Technical Skills:



Proficiency in using scanning equipment and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) to view and manage files.

Demonstrated hands-on experience with Plant3D, Revit and Navisworks.

Organizational Skills:



Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage and track large volumes of documents.

Communication Skills:



Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain technical information to both engineers and field personnel.

Problem-Solving:



Ability to quickly analyze and resolve issues that arise from discrepancies in the plans. Excellent critical thinking with the ability to create innovative solutions

Construction Knowledge:



A foundational understanding of construction processes, terminology, and the information contained in engineering drawings.

Software Proficiency:



Familiarity with standard office software like Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is often required.

Proficiency with Plant3D, Revit and Navisworks

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.45-$41.07 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
