If so, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Red Seal Construction and Maintenance Electrician to remove electrical services and systems safely and to assess the suitability of existing services for future use. What will you be doing!

  • Reading and interpreting building plans, electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings, and electrical code specifications to determine wiring installations.
  • Cutting, threading, bending, assembling and installing conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
  • Pulling wire through conduits and holes in walls and floors.
  • Laying out, assembling, installing, repairing, maintaining, connecting and testing electrical fixtures, control equipment, and wiring for fire alarm, communication, light, heat and power systems.
  • Positioning, installing and maintaining distribution and control equipment such as circuit breaker panel boards, fuse enclosures, switch boxes, and pullboxes.
  • Installing data cabling and fibre optic systems.
  • Testing electrical circuits to ensure integrity and safety.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have completed apprenticeship training or equivalent and be qualified as a Construction & Maintenance Electrician with a 309A or HC License/Interprovincial Red Seal Ticket.
  • Experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a Red Seal Electrician.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of all applicable codes and standards to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints and drawings.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to update and write procedures, create spreadsheets, input data and communicate via email.
  • Conscientious about accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to use initiative and judgement to organize and maintain the flow of work and accuracy of records.
  • Must be punctual, dependable and safety-minded.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and use time management.
  • The ability to understand detailed information is essential.
  • Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's Standard on Security Screening and the Policy on Government Security.
Working Conditions:
  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day, starting at 6 am.
  • Must possess physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
  • Must be capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required.
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from +30xc2xb0C to -40xc2xb0C.
