The Opportunity

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), a leader Canadian habitat conservation, is seeking a highly motivated youth to fill the summer position of Conservation Technician in St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, NL.

Duties May Include

Based out of our St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, NL office, duties may include the following:

• Conducting research to identify wetland conservation opportunities that align with ongoing environmental sustainability planning initiatives being undertaken by municipalities within the riding of St. John\xe2\x80\x99s East
• Assisting with wetland site assessments on the Northeast Avalon
• Representing DUC at public outreach and engagement events
• Assisting other DUC staff with ongoing conservation work as needed

Additional Details

• Available for work between June and late-August (up to 12 weeks depending on funding).
• The position is based on funding where the successful candidate must be a youth between age 15-30 years.
• May require occasional evening/weekend work.

Requirements

• Must have a passion for conservation and the environment.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and oral and written communication skills in English.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• In progress (or completed) post secondary program in an ecology, environment or sustainability related field would be considered an asset.
• Practical field skills and understanding of basic biology, local species, and ecosystems would be considered an asset.
• Our COVID-19 Vaccination Passport policy will be suspended effective March 1, 2023. However, should the policy be reinstated, all successful candidates will be required to submit proof of vaccination.
