Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dynamic individual to join our Connect-Ability program as a Support Worker. The program is a recreational, leisure, and an education based program supporting individuals with various needs. The role involves creating and delivering person centered and person directed programming by providing positive and meaningful experiences that enables participants to explore and learn in their environment. You will be working closely with individuals who typically require assistance with personal care, communications, fine motor skills, and mobility. The term position is for 12-18 months with the possibility of extension.

Plan and implement engaging activities; both in house and in the community
Support participants with personal care, fine motor skills, and mobility
Encourage independence, creativity, and self-advocacy.
Seek out resources and opportunities for fun and learning
Communicate effectively with participants, team members, volunteers, and caregivers.
Maintain respectful, person-centered documentation.
Adapt to evolving needs of the program and participants
Uphold privacy, dignity, and the rights of the individuals.

Promote independence and choice in daily interactions.
Demonstrate respect and professionalism at all times.
Punctual and reliable, using sick time appropriately.
Maintain confidentiality and represent CCOA positively in all settings.
Essential Skills:
Program and activity development and adaptations.
Ability to work independently or as part of the team.
Experience with non-traditional communication.
Communication skills: including written, spoken, and non-traditional forms.
Problem solving, Continuous learning and Computer knowledge are important
Other Requirements:
Ability to perform all physical duties of the job
Able to lift up to 30lbs (13.60kg) repetitively
Able to assist with transfers
Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a clean drivers abstract required
Reliable transportation to work.
Current Criminal and Vulnerable sector check required
Qualifications:
Completion of a community College or University program in Human Services, disability support, or equivalent
Employment experience supporting individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities
Completion of the seven core competency training required or willingness to complete within 6 months of employment.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
