The system consists of 42 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of 300 graduate programs, over 70 professional programs, and more than 700 undergraduate degree programs. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries data centre houses more than 200 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.Your OpportunityUnder general supervision, the Computer Systems Specialist (CSS) provides technical support for computer systems and services within and related to the University of Toronto Libraries. The CSS supports the user community by analyzing and resolving computer and network-related problems as they arise. Installs, maintains, and supports computer software and hardware, as well as associated peripherals such as projectors, printers, and scanners.Qualifications(Minimum)Education:Community college graduation in IT field required. University degree with Information Technology preferred or related courses or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience:

  • Three years of related experience required.
  • IT user support experience in an institutional environment; advanced technical knowledge of recent versions of Windows;
  • Advanced knowledge of computer hardware configuration and support;
  • Experience supporting mobile devices; knowledge of networking and communications technologies;
  • User support experience with Mac OS; experience with Linux an asset.
  • Proficiency in shell and batch scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Perl) a significant asset.

  • Highly self-motivated with demonstrated ability to perform duties independently and to work on projects of varying complexity for extended periods of time;
  • Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Good oral and written English communication skills, and ability to communication technical issues clearly to users with varying technical skill levels.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated good work performance and attendance record.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing computing environment.
