An established, growing, dynamic healthcare and pharmaceutical organization based in the GTA is looking for a Sterile Compounding Specialist for one of their locations in Oshawa. This role is with an organization that has multiple locations and service offerings with unique and specialized pharmacy structures. They have over 100 staff throughout the region and continue to grow.
Compensation
$43,000 - $45,000 salary
The Opportunity
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity within a sterile compounding environment at a closed-door pharmacy. The organization is committed to the highest standards of patient care and precision, specializing in the preparation of sterile medications that require strict attention to detail and compliance with quality and safety protocols.
We currently have two positions available, offering different shift schedules to suit varying preferences:

  • Shift Option 1: Monday to Thursday, rotating 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, plus Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Shift Option 2: Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., rotating with Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
As part of the Dedicated Pharmacy Program (DPP), the successful candidate will join a collaborative team that takes pride in safely preparing and dispensing customized medications that play a vital role in improving patient outcomes. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable sterile compounding experience in a structured and supportive environment, with exposure to advanced pharmacy practices and continuous professional development.
Position Description
  • Prepare sterile compounded medications according to prescriber orders, formula, and regulatory standards
  • Perform accurate calculations and measurements for compounding pharmaceutical preparations
  • Label, package and document compounded products according to internal procedures and quality assurance protocols
  • Conduct visual inspections of compounded medications for signs of contamination, discolouration or particulate matter
  • Follow aseptic techniques to maintain sterility and prevent contamination in a cleanroom setting
  • Operate and maintain laminar airflow hoods, biological safety cabinets, and other sterile compounding equipment
  • Ensure compliance with USP and NAPRA guidelines
  • Maintain a clean and organized sterile compounding area that includes routine cleaning and environmental monitoring
  • Maintain accurate records of compounding activities including batch records, compounding logs, etc.
  • Work with the pharmacists on duty to resolve discrepancies and clarify orders
  • Monitoring inventory in the lab and requesting any materials required
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in compounding within a hospital, specialty pharmacy or compounding facility
  • Experience working in an aseptic cleanroom environment a STRONG ASSET
  • Experience compounding sterile preparations such as intravenous admixtures, TPN, Chemotherapy drugs or ophthalmic solutions an asset
  • Experience with quality assurance, documentation, and batch record keeping in a regulated environment an asset
  • Familiarity with inventory management of raw materials and supplies
  • Experience using compounding software or pharmacy information systems such as Kroll, Healthwatch, etc.
Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience working in a compounding pharmacy, or pharmaceutical manufacturing setting
  • Experience measuring and compounding preparations based on a variety of formulas
  • Solid understanding of aseptic techniques required in a sterile laboratory environment
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of post-secondary education a strong asset
