In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, and reporting to the Director, Medical Safety, the Compliance Manager leads a team of consultant experts in the development and delivery of controlled substances and related medication management processes and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, provincial, and local regulations and professional Colleges. The Compliance Manager oversees and monitors the results of scheduled and random audits of medication systems that include processes for the purchase, receipt, storage, distribution, administration, waste, and documentation of narcotics and controlled substances to report to leadership teams and quality committees as appropriate. The Compliance Manager leads the development, delivery and evaluation related to awareness of controlled substance diversion risks and provides education and recommendations that mitigating risks. The Compliance Manager leads the process of data collection and analysis for trends that suggest potential diversion of controlled substances and maintains all related documentation. In collaboration with Clinical Operations Managers and Island Health Human Resources, the Compliance Manager provides leadership and direction in investigations where potential diversion is identified. The Compliance Manager develops, maintains, and evaluates the multi-disciplinary approach to detection and prevention of narcotic and controlled substances diversion and the medication use process; and provides corrective and improvement recommendations and reports to relevant leadership teams. Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
