Position Overview
The Community Voice & Communications Manager (CVCM) is a new strategic leadership role responsible for amplifying Sophia Recovery Centre's mission and impact in the community. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the CVCM designs and executes comprehensive communications and advocacy strategies that reflect Sophia's trauma-informed approach and strategic priorities. This role leads partnership-building efforts with diverse stakeholders--including government, service agencies, and the public--to champion recovery-inclusive policies and practices.
Through visionary leadership, strategic communication, and collaborative engagement, the CVCM drives Sophia Recovery Centre's growth and sustains its commitment to professional excellence, person-centred care, and a recovery-friendly community.
Key Responsibilities:
As SRC's Community Voice and Communications Manager, you will:
Develop and execute strategic communications and advocacy plans aligned with Sophia's mission and strategic goals.
Develop, update, and maintain SRC website content
Craft clear, consistent messaging across multiple platforms, including reports, social media posts, media releases, and educational resources--tailored to our community and partners.
Use software (WordPress, Canva, and Microsoft applications) to write, edit and publish content.
Provide guidance for staff and volunteers in creating digital content and other communications.
Lead public awareness campaigns and storytelling initiatives that elevate recovery voices and reduce stigma.
Support collaboration with government and stakeholders through research, briefing materials, and strategic preparation.
Monitor media, community trends, and public discourse to inform outreach and ensure relevance.
Strengthen relationships with agencies, partners, and the public through thoughtful engagement and sector-wide communications.
Support the execution of major events, workshops, and campaigns.
Serve as a key contributor to the Recovery Inclusive Region initiative, coordinating cross-sector efforts and public engagement.
Qualifications & Skills
Undergraduate degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing, or an equivalent field.
Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in communications, advocacy, or community engagement.
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written content for diverse audiences, including promotional materials and storytelling pieces.
Proficiency with digital platforms and strong content creation skills, including experience designing social media graphics and campaign materials using Canva or similar tools, to support effective online engagement.
Collaborative mindset and strong verbal communication skills to work effectively within a highly integrated staff team and engage stakeholders. This includes listening attentively, providing clear and respectful feedback, and confidently presenting to groups of varying sizes.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in communications practices and when working with vulnerable populations (personal, volunteer, or professional experience considered an asset).
Ability to self-manage workflow and tasks while contributing to day-to-day priorities in a collaborative environment.
