Position Overview:
Viola's Place Society is seeking a compassionate, non-judgmental, and skilled individual to join our team as a
Client Trustee
. In this role, you will provide financial support and guidance to clients, helping them develop the skills and confidence to manage their own finances independently. The client base spans Northeastern Nova Scotia, with most clients located in Pictou County. Occasional travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive support to clients in managing personal finances
Deliver financial literacy education through individual sessions and group workshops
Promote the Trustee Program and build community awareness of available services
Assist clients with budgeting, money management, and long-term financial planning
Administer client income and pay bills (primarily housing-related) in accordance with established policies and procedures
Assess and process requests for shelter diversion funding
Liaise with external agencies such as Nova Scotia Power, the Department of Community Services, and debt collection services
Support clients receiving Income Assistance, EI, CPP, and related sources
Maintain accurate and confidential statistics and financial records
Manage a varied caseload while supporting clients in building financial independence
Skills
Strong understanding of personal finance, budgeting, accounting and financial planning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Compassionate, non-judgmental, and professional approach to working with vulnerable populations
Well-developed problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
Ability to complete basic personal income tax returns
Knowledge of government programs and local support services, with the ability to match clients to appropriate resources
Familiarity with trust bank account operations and related regulations (preferred)
Requirements:
Must be at least 19 years of age
Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Experience in finance, budgeting, accounting and financial planning
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (required)
Experience working with vulnerable populations, such as individuals with mental health concerns, addictions, or diverse abilities
Ability to manage a large caseload within a collaborative team environment
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $45,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 16 - 40 per week
