Penticton and District Society for Community Living (PDSCL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting people with diverse abilities throughout Penticton and surrounding communities. We provide inclusive services to individuals with intellectual disabilities, seniors, low-income adults and families, and persons experiencing homelessness. Our goal is to promote dignity, inclusion, and independence through person-centred support and community engagement.
Position Summary
PDSCL is seeking an adaptable and skilled individual for a Temporary Full-Time Floater position working across multiple program areas. Reporting to the appropriate Program Coordinator, the Floater will be assigned to various departments to cover staff absences (sick leave, vacation, and other operational needs).
The successful candidate will work a guaranteed 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Weekly schedules will vary depending on program requirements and will be provided in advance.
This position will provide coverage and support across the following program areas:
Staffed Living / Outreach
Inclusion Programs
PALS (Personal Assistance for Living Skills)
Day Services
Youth Programs
Key Responsibilities
The Floater will be assigned shifts that may include the following duties depending on the program placement:
Community Support Worker Duties
Participate in assessments, goal setting, and program planning for individuals.
Support clients in developing and maintaining life skills, social skills, and independence.
Teach and assist with personal care, toiletting, meal preparation, budgeting, and household safety.
Facilitate recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
Recognize and de-escalate potential emergencies, ensuring client and public safety.
Administer medication in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports.
Accompany and transport clients to appointments or community activities.
Liaise with other professionals, agencies, and family members as needed.
School-Aged Child / Youth Worker Duties
Plan, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate activities for children and youth.
Develop balanced daily schedules incorporating indoor/outdoor and group/individual activities.
Provide behavioural intervention and support to promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Ensure a safe environment and attend to children's physical needs, including toileting, eating, and mobility assistance.
Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers, and professionals involved in the child's support plan.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and participation statistics.
Administer first aid and medication as required.
Activity Worker Duties
Plan, organize, and facilitate community-based social, educational, and recreational activities.
Encourage and assist participants to engage meaningfully in activities.
Model appropriate behaviour and support skill development in life and social areas.
Observe, document, and report client progress or concerns.
Follow safety procedures and respond to emergencies per established guidelines.
Maintain records, reports, and communication with families, caregivers, and professionals.
Education and Experience
Completion of a diploma or equivalent certification in a related Human/Social Services or Recreation field.
Minimum of one (1) year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Fluency in ASL (American Sign Language) or willingness to obtain.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a Temporary Full-Time (40-hour per week) position.
After three (3) full months of employment, the successful candidate will qualify for Health and Welfare benefits beginning on the first day of the following month.
