We are seeking a Casual - Community Support Worker who is fluent in Russian and English speaking, who can provide support in Life Skills for a client.



The successful applicant may also be able to pick up additional Community Support hours with English speaking clients depending on the applicants availability.

Job Summary:



In consultation with the Program Manager the Community Support Worker provides life skills training and support services for clients regarding issues such as personal care and other aspects of daily living, access to community leisure programs, housekeeping duties, planning and preparing meals, booking medical appointments and organizing and supporting a client to follow through with a weekly schedule with one or more brain injured clients living in the community. The Community Support Worker empowers the client(s) to perform all aspects of daily living as independently as possible, providing support and intervention where necessary.

Roles & Responsibilities:



In accordance with established Individual Service Plans and rehabilitation schedules, assists with or provides stand by assistance to client(s) for the development of life skills such as maintaining personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal preparation and planning, meeting financial obligations/budgeting, making and keeping appointments, following a daily or weekly schedule, leisure activities, shopping, and personal laundry Observes client(s) while they participate in daily activities, documenting problems, strengths and weaknesses and uses these observations when participating in Individual Service Plan development. In accordance with established Individual Service Plans, assists client(s) with the development of cognitive and physical skills using compensatory strategies, such as memory and physical aides, where applicable. Monitors client(s) medication and/or provides medication reminders, in accordance with established Individual Service Plans. Observes and reports medical, behavioural and other problems as required. Provides intervention as required, in accordance with established Individual Service Plans. Collaborates with the client(s) to investigate and identify available social, economic, recreational and educational services and resources in the community that will meet clients' needs. Facilitates clients' physical, recreational, educational and employment/volunteer needs by performing duties such as driving clients in own vehicle and arranging for clients to be transported to programs/services, attending/participating in the appointments or activities, and implementing programs. Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as Individual Service Plans, resident admission forms, statistics, progress reports, daily logs, checklists, financial records and monthly reports. Meets regularly with the supervisor for program planning and direction on implementation strategies. Performs delegated tasks for which transfer of function training has been completed, such as implementing exercise programs. Accompanies client(s) on outings such as appointments, shopping and leisure activities. Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:



Fluent in Russian Language. This is mandatory for the role.

Recent related experience working with the brain injured or other disabled population Current certification and documents in the following areas: emergency first aid or equivalent, CPR level A, drivers license class 5 Relevant post secondary education or equivalent combination of education, training and experience Proficient in written and spoken English The use of a personal vehicle to drive clients to appointments and other outings.
