At Odyssey House, our vision is to help women and children break free from the cycle of family violence. As a member of our team, you will help to ensure consistent implementation of agency policies and procedures and ensure all staff, residents, and clients are cared for.
Summary of Position
Reporting to the Community Support Manager, the Community Support Worker supports, advocates, and accompanies clients in the community throughout the processes of addressing legal, financial, medical, housing, and child welfare issues. Must be willing to travel within the City of Grande Prairie and surrounding communities.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure all reporting and documentation is accurate, up-to-date, non-judgmental, culturally inclusive, trauma-informed and women-centered
Provide support to families by assisting with referrals, appropriate transportation, and advocacy to meet the needs of each family's situation and that adequate discharge planning is in place
Assist clients with court support, complete safety plans, and secure basic needs
Facilitate and co-facilitate shelter groups as outlined by the Community Support Manager, including choosing relevant groups topics and organizing materials and appropriate speakers
Develop and maintain relationships with relevant agencies/service providers for a collaborative approach to family violence to ensure best service delivery
Providing transportation to clients when needed
Qualifications
The successful applicant will possess one or more of the following:
Diploma or bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counselling, or other Human Services related field
Minimum one year working with individuals who have experienced family violence
A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
Valid class 5 driver's license and a safe and reliable vehicle
Experience in group facilitation considered an asset
Experience in Outcome Tracker considered an asset
Skills and Abilities
The successful applicant will possess the following:
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Good organizational and time management skills
Knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence and women's issues
Strong understanding of Alberta and Canada legal and court processes, Emergency Protection Orders (EPOs), No Contact Orders (NCOs), and Restraining Orders (ROs)
Knowledge of sexual assault, mental health, and addiction issues
Familiarity with Child & Family Services processes; the Children's First Act; Temporary Guardianship Orders (TGOs) and Permanent Guardianship Orders (PGOs)
Knowledge of crisis intervention counselling, case management, and safety planning
Above average written and oral communication skills
Creative problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong knowledge of social service community agencies and protocols for referral/advocacy
