What to expect in the role

You will work within a team or 18 other staff per shift to support adults with developmental disabilities, dementia diagnoses, and medical needs in a group living setting. With this team you will provide these individuals direct support to meet their goals and live their lives to the fullest. The individuals in this home require medical assistance and personal care. With a passion for supporting people with disabilities, you will:

  • Provide medical, technological, environmental, emotional, physical, and behavioural support
  • Schedule, transport to, and attend medical appointments
  • Support individuals through active addiction using harm reduction model
  • Engage in daily skills such as grocery shopping, clothing shopping, recreational activities, cooking, cleaning, etc.
  • May provide personal care such as lifts, transfers, eating support, and personal hygiene
  • Assist in managing mental health, interpersonal relationship, overall well-being
  • Promote independence, supporting in environments/activities such as schooling, employment or volunteering activities
  • Learn the behavioural support plans to better understand client needs
  • Complete required client documentation effectively
Schedule & Rate of Pay:
This frontline position works with a team of practitioners in a supported living setting where individuals

have their own apartments within the building with staff supporting them 24/7. You must be available to drive and comfortable driving to any quadrant of the city if required. This Permanent position is 40 hours/week and the schedule will be Sundays 1:00PM - 9:00PM, Mondays & Fridays 7:00AM - 3:00PM, Thursdays 9:00AM - 05:00PM, Saturdays 3:00PM - 11:00PM. This position is subject to a shift differential between $0.25 and $0.50 per hour for evening and weekend shifts. The starting hourly rate for this position is $19.34/hr. Cost shared benefits will begin after 3 months probation. This role includes 2 weeks vacation plus an additional 5 flex days after 6 months employment, and mileage is paid at $0.50/km

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of a Canadian Certificate/Diploma in the Human Services sector (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Valid class 5 driver license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance by time of hire
  • Must be able to drive the client in their vehicle
  • Must have experience with or deep understanding of individuals with FASD, ADHD, OCD, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder, major depressive disorder, suicidal ideations (would be important to have Life works training or ASIST training), ODD (oppositional defiance disorder), autism.
  • You must be okay being around pets/animals
Preferred Requirements

  • Comfortable supporting clients with a number of behaviors which can be intimidating
  • One-year relevant experience in the human services field is preferred
  • Experience working with individuals with suicidal ideations
  • Familiarity with Harm Reduction Model and methods
