We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Community Relations Advisor (CRA) to join our Peace Officer Section within the Community Standards Branch. In this role, you will play a key part in building bridges between the City and diverse communities, fostering understanding of bylaw and provincial act enforcement, and promoting collaborative solutions to social issues
As a Community Relations Advisor, you will be the vital link between the Peace Officer Section and the community, promoting positive relationships and mutual understanding. You will develop and implement community relations strategies, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and provide expertise on community standards issues. Your ability to build relationships, communicate effectively, and navigate complex social issues will be crucial to your success
What will you do?

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for community relations for the Peace Officer Section.
  • Manage projects, campaigns, and events from conception to evaluation, ensuring alignment with Council and Branch directives
  • Establish and lead corporate working teams to support Community Standards in community engagement, collaboration, and partnership building
  • Support and facilitate cross-agency efforts and collaborations for community leaders and members to share expertise and resources
  • Act as a liaison for diverse Community Standards initiatives that support building a welcoming, inclusive, and socially cohesive community
  • Provide expertise and leadership to the Branch on practices, policies, and principles associated with community engagement and public relations strategies
  • Manage community inquiries, complaints, and concerns with professionalism and sensitivity
  • Conduct research and share information and resources on communications and community relations best practices
  • Serve as a resource to managers and supervisors within designated areas of expertise and coordinate/initiate community programs across operational units
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • University degree in Communications/Public Relations, Community Development, Social Worker, Business Administration, Education, or other related field
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in community development, program development, communications/public relations, strategic planning, event planning, project management, working with community organizations, and budget management
Assets:
  • Certification in board development
  • Change Management, Effective Facilitation, Mediation , Advertising Experience with Fund Development
Skills required for success:
  • Excellent program development and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent knowledge of social issues and community programming
  • Public speaking and presentations, awareness of communication strategies and channels
  • Understanding of bylaws and provincial acts, some knowledge of enforcement principles
  • Expertise in community development and facilitation
  • Proficient in preparing technical reports and making recommendations
  • Significant understanding of communication tools, with particular emphasis on the diverse range of social media platforms
  • Expertise in aligning corporate, branch, and strategic plan objectives while incorporating political requirements.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships internally and externally, with all levels
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships, leading/ facilitating meetings of multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google workspace (Docs/Gmail)

Conditions of Employment:
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent) or higher. Candidates will be required to arrange their own transportation and, where appropriate, will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy. This may require the candidate to obtain business-use auto insurance.

Work Environment:
  • This position ?may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ?with ?the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52 ?
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time.
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states

Salary Range: $45.611 - $57.269 (Hourly); $80,355.180 - $100,893.660 (Annually) -33.75 hours per week or
$$43.102-$54.113 (Hourly); $89,996.980- $112,987.940 (Annually) - 40 hours per week
