The Role



Community Recreation Programmer



This is a temporary part-time at Haldimand County, with an hourly compensation range of $33.419 - $38.687.



The Opportunity



In this role, you will develop, plan, coordinate, and promote recreation programs and activities that enhance community well-being across Haldimand County. You will ensure the safe and effective delivery of all programs while providing exceptional customer service to participants, parents and caregivers, staff, and the public. You will also provide leadership and direction to program staff and volunteers, contributing to an engaging and inclusive recreation experience for all.

Position Summary



This role will develop, plan, coordinate and promote recreation, leisure and wellness programs and activities for all ages. They are responsible for the quality and safe delivery of the County's recreation programs and activities. The incumbent will provide guidance and exemplary customer service for the participants, parents/caregivers, staff and the public. Lastly, they provide leadership and guidance to program staff and volunteers.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

Education



Community College diploma or degree relative to area of responsibility (Recreation and Leisure Studies or Sports Management or Therapeutic Recreation or Disability Studies Management)



Experience



More than three years current related experience including design and delivery of recreation, leisure and wellness programs

Experience working with individuals with disabilities and seniors is considered an asset



Certifications (current or able to recertify):



HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (PHCD)

Standard First Aid/CPR-C



Preference may be given to applicants with the following certifications or qualifications:



Current Can Fit Pro or Ontario Fitness Council Certificate

Personal Trainer or Group Fit Instructor certification

Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging Certifications

HIGH FIVE Trainer/Facilitator certification

HIGH FIVE Quest 1 & 2 certification

Behaviour Management Systems certificate

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificate

Lifesaving National Lifeguard (NL)

Life Saving Swim Instructor

Aquatic Management Training or Aquatic Supervisory Training

Life Saving Instructor "Bronze Family" or Examiner

Certification/experience in recreation/leisure/wellness activities including--but not limited to--pickleball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, Zumba, yoga, Pilates, tai chi, etc.



Knowledge/Skills



Understanding of relevant legislation such as Reg. 565 Public Pools and the Child Care and Early Years Act that affect programming responsibilities



Proven initiative to work independently and as a team member with minimal supervision



Demonstrated research, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to assess trends and issues and develop options to identify and initiate programming opportunities



Ability to make decisions that enable effective and efficient program delivery and develop innovative implementation approaches



Demonstrated interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relations with others (County staff, peers within other organizations, agencies and community partners)



Ability to assess concerns, complaints and issues, and develop approaches to effectively problem solve or manage conflict



Leadership skills to motivate and lead staff and volunteers in order to achieve goals and objectives



Knowledge and ability to encourage the development of skills and create a well-trained, positive programming team



Communication skills (listening, writing, verbal) that support collaboration with others (County staff, peers within other organizations, agencies and community partners)



Ability to track statistics, prepare reports, correspondence, documentation, etc., required to track success, highlight areas for improvement and the development of future plans



Demonstrated time management and organizational skills to identify priorities, plan and re-arrange work to meet identified deadlines



Basic understanding of municipal government, its operations and services



Basic understanding of financial principles and practices



Valid Ontario Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle



Technology Aptitude



Demonstrated intermediate computer skills to utilize various technological devices and programs while adhering to and ensuring cybersecurity and best practices are followed



Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)



Proven ability to apply essential functions of desktop software to create simple spreadsheets and documents



Send and receive emails



Use Internet for research



File and data management



Introductory to intermediate knowledge of Department- or Division-specific software to accomplish job tasks



Familiarity with ActiveNet (recreation management software) or similar booking/registration software would be an asset



Responsibilities



The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:



People



Practice effective public relations to sustain the positive image of the Corporation of Haldimand County

Establish and maintain relationships with County staff, peers within other organizations, volunteers, participants and parents/caregivers, community partners and other agencies such as Haldimand and Norfolk Health & Social Services, Haldimand & Norfolk Children's Aid Society, REACH, Canadian Tire Jumpstart, Grand Erie Public Health Unit, etc.

Represent Division at relevant meetings

Provide input into the development of the Division/Unit budget, monitor expenditures of assigned accounts



Functional



Health & Safety



Assist with the application of legislation, regulations and current approved corporate policies relevant to area of responsibility; enabling and ensuring staff, volunteers, participants, parents and community partners foster a safe and healthy environment for all



Assist staff and volunteers to efficiently and safely complete all assigned work required for the successful delivery of County programs



Ensure that all buildings, facilities, equipment and supplies required to complete work are available and utilized appropriately



Ensure that all programming areas, including the Active Living Centre, programming room, kitchen, atrium, washrooms, etc., are clean and safe for use by participants and members of the public



Coordinate activities required for the successful delivery of approved programs



Recordkeeping



Review and amend training documents required for program staff and volunteers



Research and contribute to the development of programming enhancements and new programming initiatives



Ensure records for all programming and services undertaken or provided through collaborative delivery are current, accurate and completed documentation is readily retrievable



Prepare information and materials to promote community programs and facilities for County publications, website, social media, etc.



Responsible for program maintenance in ActiveNet and providing guidance for program registration and back-up for facility booking as needed
