"Unqualified Candidates Will Not Be Considered" POSITION DESCRIPTION: 1. Reporting to the Manager of Protective Services, the Community Peace Officer will maintain an appointment and good standing under the Alberta Public Security Peace Officer Program and adhere to the program\xe2\x80\x99s Policy and Procedure Manual. 2. The Community Peace Officer assists and works cooperatively with the RCMP, Fish and Wildlife, Parks and other allied policing agencies, Municipal Area partners, internal municipal departments and the community. 3. This position investigates by-law complaints and disputes, and ensures appropriate resolutions either by education, orders or fines. 4. The Community Peace Officer patrols the community through shift work on a regular basis for education, prevention, intervention, and enforcement of any and all offences related to their appointment. 5. Adhere to the requirements and directives as outlined under the Appointment granted by the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, and the municipality\xe2\x80\x99s Authorization to Employ Peace Officers 6. Adhere to the requirements of the Peace Officer Code of Conduct Policy, while on duty as well as while off duty. 7. Review existing Municipal Bylaws identify needed amendments and develop new Municipal Bylaw drafts. 8. Review existing policies, identify policy needs and recommend and develop required policy drafts and administrative procedures related to Enforcement programs. 9. Attend Council meetings as requested by the CAO or Manager to provide technical advice and expertise for relevant agenda items. 10. Work collaboratively with other RCMP and all other enforcement agencies as required. 11. Ensure all law enforcement activities are conducted in a manner that demonstrates professionalism, respect and regard for public health and safety. 12. Provide support to other County departments and County initiatives as they relate to law enforcement. 13. Assist local Police, Fire, Rescue and EMS services in day-to-day emergency responses and as per local MOU\xe2\x80\x99s. 14. Attend and participate in Court proceedings as necessary including the prosecution of charges and violations issued as per the Provincial Offences and Procedures Act. 15. Attend any professional development courses, workshops, seminars etc. as approved by the supervisor. 16. Attend and successfully complete required recertification training and evaluations for Self Defense, Emergency Driving and Enforcement Skills to maintain applicable prerequisites. 17. Provide monthly summary reports on activities to the Manager of Protective Services. 18. Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism & integrity. 19. Demonstrate ability to ensure all work related information is kept confidential and in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. 20. To observe and comply with all regulations and procedures that relate to individual health and safety, and the safety of co-workers. 21. Responsible to participate with emergency management duties either in the Emergency Operations Centre(EOC)/Incident Command Post(ICP) or in support of it as may be required during a State of Local Emergency or EOC/ICP Activation. 22. Perform other related duties as may be requested by the Manager and/or CAO. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: \xc2\xb7 High School diploma. \xc2\xb7 Completion of the Community Peace Officer Level 1 Training Program and are eligible to obtain appointment as a Community Peace Officer Level 1. \xc2\xb7 Completion of a 2-year diploma in law enforcement, criminology, police sciences, or equivalent. \xc2\xb7 A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Community Peace Officer Level 1. \xc2\xb7 Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with a strong focus on customer service. \xc2\xb7 Demonstrated planning, problem solving and decision making, with the ability to work under own initiative, while taking due care and responsibility to make sound decisions, sometimes under stressful conditions. \xc2\xb7 Demonstrated knowledge of Court procedures. \xc2\xb7 Proven abilities to liaise with internal and external government/municipal departments, police, other municipal services, clients and staff members to achieve positive results. \xc2\xb7 As a condition of employment, the candidate must provide a RCMP security clearance, Completion of an approved Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test and successfully complete an Enhanced Security/Reliability screening. \xc2\xb7 Must possess current and thorough knowledge of all County Bylaws, Applicable Alberta Statutes, Acts & Regulations. \xc2\xb7 Basic training in WHMIS, First Aid, and CPR. \xc2\xb7 Additional Certifications Required- Weights and Dimensions Certification, Radar and Laser Certification, Child Restraint Technician, Emergency Vehicle Operations Certificate, Load Securement Certification \xc2\xb7 Ability to take due care and responsibility while working alone and un-supervised. \xc2\xb7 Training and experience in emergency preparedness and response (ICS 100, ICS 200) \xc2\xb7 Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong focus on customer service. \xc2\xb7 Proficient computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. \xc2\xb7 Competency in letter writing and note taking. \xc2\xb7 Municipal government experience would be a definite asset. \xc2\xb7 Excellent communication skills are essential in this role. \xc2\xb7 Pay close attention to detail, accurately capture, retain and relay information. \xc2\xb7 Work in fast paced environment, prioritize and manage multiple work tasks to achieve deadlines. \xc2\xb7 Function as a member of a team and ability to work independently with minimal supervision while staying committed to customer service. \xc2\xb7 Interact well with and respond to enquiries from management, council, other staff, contractors and ratepayers. \xc2\xb7 Must have a valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license, be able to provide an acceptable driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract and a satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance.
