ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE This role reports to Rebecca Harbut SUMMARY The Community Outreach Coordinator is a role that will work closely with faculty to improve Sustainable Agriculture\xe2\x80\x99s community outreach capacity through the completion of a series of externally funded projects. This position will be closely involved in planning, building and execution of these projects. This position is a 1 year, renewable contract (up to 3 years). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES This position will be responsible for working with the lead faculty to complete the following projects.

  • KPU Farm Volunteer Program \xe2\x80\x93 Provide training and opportunities for KPU Farm volunteers to work in the learning garden and the farmers market stand. This position would work with faculty on the training and execution of the program.
  • KPU Learning Gardens Community Board \xe2\x80\x93 Establish a communication board at the KPU Farm to facilitate communication with the community members.
  • Indigenous Voices Self-Guided tour. Assist the project lead and work with indigenous partners on the development of a self-guided tour that talks about what is currently going on at the KPU Farm, what has occurred in the past under Indigenous stewardship, including food plants that were grown and harvested on the lands would be highlighted.
  • Development of a Food Forest \xe2\x80\x93 Planning and construction of a food forest at the east entrance of the KPU Farm. Contribute to the development of educational signage.
  • Outdoor Demonstration Kitchen/Classroom \xe2\x80\x93 build outdoor kitchen to facilitate cooking lessons and classes about growing, harvesting, canning, and cooking fresh local food, connecting people with farm-to-table experiences and fostering an appreciation for sustainable farming practices.
  • Farmers Market Stand \xe2\x80\x93 establish an onsite farmers market stand that would allow the community to purchase produce at the KPU Farm. This would also tie in with the Volunteer program in that volunteers could support the farmers market stand by stocking and helping run the stand.
  • Accessible Resting Spots - built infrastructure (sitting benches, picnic tables, etc.) on the KPU Farm and in the KPU Learning Garden to facilitate people of all abilities to enjoy the space
  • Willow Dome and Children\'s Wildflower Garden \xe2\x80\x93 build a Willow Dome and a children\'s Wildflower Garden at the KPU Farm
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture
  • Experience in creating and implementing food systems/environmental education lessons
  • Experience in agricultural education with children and adults
  • Experience in outdoor education
  • Knowledgeable in operations of organic, diversified farm systems
  • Bachelor degree in Agriculture or closely related field
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Experience managing social media accounts
  • Experience mentoring/training
