The Walkley Community Center is seeking a dedicated and community-driven Community Organizer to coordinate, manage, and lead three core community programs.
This part-time position requires someone who is capable of planning and delivering meaningful programs to diverse age groups from babies to seniors. The Role includes a combination of program delivery, planning, and community outreach. In-person availability during program hours is required, while some administrative and communication tasks may be completed remotely or outside of the office.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Delivery and Facilitation of three community programs
Plan engaging activities such as games, discussions, crafts, movement, or guest presentations.
Create an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful atmosphere.
Program #2: Little Explorers Baby Club - Once a week
Lead a weekly parent-and-baby session that supports early development through play, music, and sensory activities.
The Schedule is flexible, preferably on weekends to support working families.
Foster a friendly environment where families feel comfortable and connected.
Program #3: Teen Program - Once a week
Coordinate a weekly youth session focused on leadership development, teamwork, and personal growth.
Open to introducing a focused theme (arts, wellness, social justice) based on youth interests.
Build a safe and supportive space where teens feel heard and empowered.
2. Preparation and Organizing
Plan monthly and weekly activities, themes, and materials for each program.
Organize supplies, set up program spaces, and handle cleanup post-session.
Maintain program attendance records and adapt activities based on participation and feedback.
Collaborate with center staff to align programs with overall community goals.
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and well-prepared environment for all participants.
3. Communications & Outreach
Design and distribute flyers, posters, and digital content to promote programs using tools like Canva or similar.
Promote programs via community boards, local networks, social media, and word of mouth.
Communicate with participants via email, phone, or in person -- sharing reminders, updates, and changes.
Respond promptly to inquiries and maintain positive relationships with community members.
Gather informal feedback and testimonials to help improve and evaluate programs.
Additional Duties May Include
Supporting the planning and delivery of seasonal or special events.
Helping with light administrative tasks related to community engagement.
Attending staff meetings or training sessions when required.
Weekly Hours Breakdown
In Person Program Delivery: 10 Hours
Program Organization and Material Purchasing: 8 Hours
Communications: 7 Hours
Qualifications
1-2 years of experience in community work, program facilitation, or working with youth, families, or seniors.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Organized and reliable
Effective communication with the rest of the team
Basic digital skills (email, flyer creation, simple scheduling tools)
Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds and age groups
CPR/First Aid certification and a clear Police Record Check are required
Bilingualism (French/English) is a strong asset.
Activities Schedule
Approximately 25 hours per weekIncludes fixed program hours:Wednesdays: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM (Senior Club)Saturdays: 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM (Senior Club)Plus two additional days for Little Explorers and Teen Program.
Flexibility required for planning time, outreach, and occasional events
