JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Outreach and Development Manager, the Community Mediation Facilitator is responsible for managing the Conflict Resolution Service (CRS).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:
Conduct intakes with clients either in person or via phone to understand the nature of the conflict and desired resolution
Accurately and succinctly explain CRS, Mediation and the mediation process to clients seeking service
Investigate the conflict to obtain relevant facts or agreements / documents
Promptly respond to phone and email inquiries regarding CRS services
Send invitations to parties inviting them to mediation via letter or email
Maintain detailed records of calls, cases and actions taken in each case
Collect and relay program stats
Hire volunteer mediators and interns and maintain a full and active volunteer roster
Assign cases to appropriate mediators
Work with mediators and parties to ensure that all steps are being taken promptly and accurately
Book libraries and/or community centers for in-person mediation
Liaise with Mississauga City Bylaw when necessary
Liaise with Mississauga Police when necessary
Provide training and workshops for DBNC Staff
Other organizational and departmental needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of post-secondary education in a related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
Exceptional customer service skills
Prior mediation experience or current studies in mediation is an asset
Solid understanding of confidentiality, professional codes of conduct and diplomacy
Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
High emotional intelligence, attention to detail, impartial in judgement, and an active listener
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
Must be able to travel for work related matters.
Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Sound digital literacy, able to use MS Teams, Zoom, Google, etc., social media and Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet and other tools required for the role
Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from a range of cultural backgrounds; various Inclusion Groups, including people with complex barriers
Flexible, self-motivated and self-reliant and ability to work effectively in a team environment
