Community Liaison

Ottawa, ON, CA, Canada

Job Description

Please note: This is an 18-month maternity leave replacement position. There is no guarantee of permanent employment beyond this term.

As the Heron Gate Community Liaison, you'll play a key role in shaping the experience of residents living in one of Ottawa's most vibrant and evolving communities. This is a dynamic and deeply human role that blends the responsiveness of community work with the structure of property management.

You'll support employment programs, respond to resident concerns, create engagement opportunities, and help ensure that community voices are reflected in decision-making processes.

No two days are alike. One day might involve coordinating kids' programming or responding to urgent needs; the next, you could be designing outreach materials, attending a local meeting, or leading a community mural project. At its core, this role is about listening, advocating, and showing up -- every day -- with purpose.

#####

WHO YOU ARE

You're a relationship-builder at heart. Compassionate, curious, and resourceful, you thrive in community spaces where every day brings new challenges and opportunities. You have a strong sense of social responsibility and a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Whether navigating a complex resident concern or organizing a local event, you bring energy, empathy, and a solutions-focused mindset. You're just as comfortable sitting down with a resident to hear their story as you are representing their voice in a city council meeting or internal planning session.

#####

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

Post-secondary education in a related field -- or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3-5 years of experience in community development, resident engagement, customer service, or nonprofit work. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills -- approachable and empathetic. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities; able to navigate sensitive situations with care and professionalism. Highly adaptable and flexible; thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Strong sense of initiative and ability to work independently while staying aligned with team goals. A genuine passion for helping others, building community, and creating inclusive spaces. Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic design tools (e.g., Canva) for creating promotional materials. Comfortable managing social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook) for community outreach. Ability to write and format newsletters, flyers, and event communications. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Multilingual abilities are considered a strong asset.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Community Hub & Program Coordination

Manage daily operations of the Heron Gate Hub, including scheduling, logistics, and partner coordination. Ensure programs and services are advertised effectively and promoted to residents. Encourage participation and remove barriers to engagement. Coordinate the Youth Resident Summer Employment Program (YRSEP) and other resident employment initiatives.

Community Events & Workshops

Lead the execution of community events, workshops, and engagement activities. Identify resident needs and emerging issues to help shape relevant programming and interventions. Support initiatives like community murals and cultural celebrations.

Partnership Building & Resource Navigation

Build and maintain partnerships with local not-for-profits, schools, and service providers. Provide resource referrals for residents and direct them to appropriate services if needs fall outside of Hazelview's scope. Represent Hazelview in meetings with community organizations and city partners.

Resident Advocacy & Engagement

Act as a bridge between residents and Hazelview leadership, sharing concerns and feedback with the appropriate internal teams. Serve as the primary community-facing contact regarding the Heron Gate redevelopment, engaging with residents, answering questions, and relaying key updates. Attend community and city council meetings to advocate for resident priorities and represent Hazelview's interests.

Communications & Social Media

Manage Heron Gate community-specific social media accounts. Create and share content to keep residents informed about opportunities, programs, and events. Develop flyers, posters, and other materials to support outreach.

Other duties as assigned, adapting as needed to the evolving needs of the community and Hazelview's broader initiative.
