The Community Health Assistant plays a key role in connecting community members with available services within the Health Department and supporting the work of senior department staff. This position acts as the initial point of contact for health service intakes and supports the delivery of both health programs and health education initiatives, while also providing administrative and clerical support to the Health & Community Services department.
Key responsibilities include:
Completing initial client intakes for community health programs.
Booking client appointments with community health service providers.
Assisting with research, program design, and delivery of related community health education programs - including surveys and evaluations to assess community needs.
Providing general administrative support including ordering supplies, preparing correspondence, communication and reports, and helping with funding applications.
Additional duties involve:
One-to-one assistance for clients accessing community health services.
Supporting public relations, records management, internal communications, and basic financial tracking.
This role requires a strong understanding of departmental services and a willingness to support program delivery as part of a collaborative team. Other related duties as assigned.
Valued Qualifications
Experience:
Experience providing management support in an assistant role
Experience with filing systems and record keeping
Knowledge:
Mature and professional individual with a minimum grade 12 high school diploma
Skills:
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with employees and the public
Good communication skills (written and verbal)
Good computer skills such as MS Office Suite and/or Google(TM) Workspace products
Abilities:
No barriers to working with any member of the community and their family representative(s)
Ability to prioritize and organize a diverse workload
Ability to listen to understand and ask questions for clarification
Other (required):
Compliance with BC Immunization program and TB Screening
Satisfactory completion of a police information
Ability to provide own transportation to work
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and Drivers Abstract
Optional (assets):
Certificate in Human Services
Ability to speak Dene and/or Cree
Other certificates such as: WHMIS, First Aid, OHS, Food Safe Level 1
Work Setting
The regular work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays, 35 hours per week. Will be required to occasionally work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. Will be required to use a company vehicle to run errands related to the work. Overtime as approved by the Manager. Interacts with employees, management staff, and community members. May be exposed to emotionally charged situations.
