The Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering community events, overseeing fundraising initiatives, and coordinating the Weaving Wicihitowin for Learning program (time-limited). This role supports community engagement and Indigenous children and youth by working collaboratively with local schools to provide tutoring and strengthen cultural connections while the program is active. The position plays a key role in relationship-building, culturally responsive programming, and sustainability through fundraising.
Key Responsibilities
Events Coordination
Plan, organize, and deliver community events hosted by the Hinton Friendship Centre Society.
Coordinate logistics including venue bookings, schedules, supplies, volunteers, and set-up/clean-up.
Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, partners, and community members to ensure successful events.
Promote events through social media, posters, and community outreach.
Track attendance and complete basic event reporting as required.
Weaving Wicihitowin for Learning Program Coordination
Coordinate the delivery of the Weaving Wicihitowin for Learning program in partnership with local schools (funding-dependent).
Support Indigenous students through tutoring, homework support, and culturally grounded learning opportunities.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with school staff, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners.
Support opportunities that strengthen Indigenous cultural identity, connection, and belonging within educational settings.
Coordinate schedules, resources, and materials related to tutoring and program activities.
Assist with tracking participation and completing required reports.
Fundraising & Revenue Generation
Coordinate and support fundraising initiatives and events for the Hinton Friendship Centre Society.
Work collaboratively with staff and partners to plan and implement fundraising activities.
Support donor, sponsor, and community engagement related to fundraising efforts.
Assist with tracking fundraising activities and outcomes.
Administration & Collaboration
Maintain organized program and event records.
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and community initiatives.
Support other Friendship Centre activities as needed.
Uphold the values, vision, and mission of the Hinton Friendship Centre Society.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience coordinating events, programs, or community initiatives.
Experience working with children, youth, or families; experience in an educational or tutoring setting is an asset.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories, and community-based approaches.
Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable building relationships with schools and community partners.
Proficient in basic computer applications (email, Word, basic reporting).
Additional Requirements
Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Willingness and ability to travel for meetings, events, training, or program delivery.
Successful completion of a criminal record check with vulnerable sector.
