We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Engagement & Program Coordinator Lead to join our team. The Community Engagement & Program Coordinator is a dynamic and relationship-centered role that works with the transition house team to support Indigenous women and children impacted by intimate partner violence.
Responsibilities
Program Development & Planning
Support a sense of community within the shelter by coordinating shared activities, events, and opportunities for connection
Coordinate group workshops and individual offerings, including wellness, cultural, life skills, and community-building activities
Partner with Elders, peer mentors, clinicians, and other facilitators to deliver relevant and responsive programming
Identify potential funding sources to sustain or grow programming
Maintain an internal schedule of events, facilitator visits, and shared space bookings
Volunteer & Student Engagement
Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, and support of student placements and community volunteers
Develop orientation materials covering trauma-informed care, shelter policies, IPV dynamics, and cultural safety
Supervise students and volunteers with clear role expectations, strong leadership, and reflective guidance
Maintain relationships with educational institutions (e.g., UNB, NBCC) to support placements and ongoing partnerships
Community Partnerships & Outreach
Build and maintain respectful, values-aligned relationships with local organizations, Indigenous communities, and service providers
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key partners (e.g., Gignoo House, Liberty Lane, Under One Sky)
Support outreach efforts, such as presentations, events, or resource-sharing in the broader community
Support Residents and Broader Team
Create a welcoming, culturally safe, and trauma-informed environment for women and children in the shelter
Contribute to a collaborative, anti-oppressive work environment rooted in reconciliation and harm reduction
Participate actively in team meetings, planning sessions, and debriefs
Share insights from programming and community engagement to inform overall shelter care
Support co-workers through shared problem-solving, mutual aid, and culturally grounded team care
Requirements
This job is

Post-secondary education in Social Work, Gender Studies, Community Development, or related field -- or equivalent lived/professional experience
Minimum 2 years' experience in community outreach, volunteer/student coordination, or supervisory roles
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with First Nations communities and Community Stakeholders
Class 5 Driver's license
Reliable vehicle access for on-call emergencies
Clear Vulnerable Sector Check & Criminal Records Check (to obtain upon hiring)
CPR-C (to be provided upon hiring if not already completed)
Trauma-informed care training (to be provided upon hiring)

NOTE: Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered
Assets
ASIST training, mental health first aid training, or similar
Experience in front-line support work with survivors of IPV, gender-based violence, or trauma
Experience with fundraising and/or grant applications
Familiarity with New Brunswick's IPV support landscape and community-based services
