We work closely with the sustainable transportation team to increase the use of transportation modes in Nova Scotia, like walking, cycling, and transit use, that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote healthy communities, and ensure equitable access for all.ABOUT YOUYou have a keen interest in faith communities and building efficiency, and a broader interest in transitioning to a green economy and energy systems in Nova Scotia. You love working with diverse groups of people and you approach environmental work through an equity lens. Your experience in supporting communities, convening stakeholders, and mobilizing supporters will allow you to assist with the implementation of the EAC\xe2\x80\x99s work with an array of partners including Faith & the Common Good, Faithful Footprints, the Clean Foundation, the United Church, the Spiritual Coalition on Climate Action Nova Scotia, and our Energy Action Team of volunteers dedicated to energy transition.YOUR FOCUS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIESThe Community Engagement Officer will focus on supporting United Church of Canada congregations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially in funding and executing energy retrofits on their buildings. This work will include:Coordinating regular meetings with regional ministers, program managers, and the Faithful Footprints grant managerSupporting the creation of new connections between congregations.Working with members of SCOCANS (the Spiritual Coalition on Climate Action Nova Scotia) to develop interfaith collaboration and climate-related initiativesCoordinate and facilitate an Atlantic \xe2\x80\x9cBeen There Done That\xe2\x80\x9d Road Show to encourage churches to meet with their boards, learn about their buildings, consider their energy bills and GHG emissions and take the first step of completing the Faithful Footprints Expression of Interest form online.Respond to questions and concerns by phone and/or email from United Church members.Support Energy Coordinator and partners in educating all faith groups about energy audits for their buildingsPromoting local opportunities for energy efficiency rebates in each of the four Atlantic provincesCoordinating and attending monthly meetings of the Energy Action Team of volunteersBlog posts and other social and mainstream multimedia promoting the successes of faith groups in climate change mitigation (greenhouse gas reduction) workCoordinate the development of supportive materials aimed at demonstrating support for faith building efficiency retrofits, including videos, open letters, op-eds and briefingsSupport the EAC\xe2\x80\x99s advocacy work relating to other building efficiency policy changes, including support for renters, building owners, and low-income households (particularly those struggling with energy poverty).WHAT YOU WILL BRINGAt least 2 years of experience supporting public education campaigns, including giving public presentations, project administration, volunteer management, and communicationsA degree or equivalent experience-based learning connected to education, administration, environmental science, planning, engineering, public policy or related fieldDemonstrated capability to synthesize and distill large amounts of detailed information over a broad range of research related to building science and related policyExcellent written and oral communication skills, including comfort with media appearancesExperience supporting community and public engagement efforts, including meeting and group facilitation and event planningDemonstrated ability to work independently and effectively allocate your time to complete important productive tasksContribute to a collaborative team environmentCommitment to environmental justiceWillingness to participate in and support the overall work of the Ecology Action Centre, including but not limited to community queries, engagement organizing, and promoting our overall impactExperience with video editing through Canva or Adobe is considered an assetFrench is considered an assetTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTA full-time (4-day work week, M-Th, 30 hours/week), 1-year fixed term positionStarting wage range is $26.50/hrFour weeks of paid vacation, 10 paid health days, 12 paid Holidays, cost-shared benefits planFlexibility to work from home with a requirement for on-site days at our renovated, energy-efficient green office building located in the North end of Halifax at 2705 Fern Lane.The first floor of our building is designed to be universally accessible.TO APPLYPlease submit your resume and cover The closing date is July 21, 2024.We thank everyone who applied; however, we will only be contacting those who will be interviewed.Powered by JazzHR
