The Centre for Student Engagement at the University of Toronto Mississauga is committed to creating inclusive learning environments to cultivate holistic student development. The Community Engagement Coordinator: Indigenous Access & Inclusion will work to develop and implement Indigenous cohort streams in some of CSE\'s Access Programs including SEE UTM, UTM Bridging Mentorship Program and Indigenous Orientation. CSE\'s access and inclusion programs work to address systemic barriers by centering the communities we work with in the development and implementation process of our programs. To do this work, we need to build authentic, transparent, and reciprocal relationships with community. This role will work closely with internal and external partners to expand and enhance these programs for indigenous students.

Working closely in partnership with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives at UTM, this position also plays a pivotal role on behalf of the Student Affairs and Services in Answering the Call: Wecheehetowin the University of Toronto Response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. This will include working with the Office of Indigenous Initiatives to engage in relationship building with Knowledge Keepers, Indigenous and non-Indigenous faculty, scholars, staff, students, and external Indigenous communities and organizations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Developing component of program/project that supports collaboration and partnerships
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Writing summary reports on programs and services
  • Planning and estimating financial resources required for programs and/or projects
  • Providing advice and support to students and mentors on program delivery matters
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years related experience in student services (combination of professional and para-professional experience is acceptable) at the post-secondary level and/or Indigenous (First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis, or Inuit) communities/agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large components of projects.
  • Experience working with Indigenous community and/or Knowledge Keepers.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a range of community members, such as students, staff, faculty, librarians, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience representing the University while working directly with external University stakeholders, such as local government, school boards, not-for-profit agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other community-based partners is required.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous educational issues and barriers, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report, the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP), and other resources pertaining to Indigenous communities.
  • Proven ability to be creative and innovative in the development and maintenance of programs.
  • Proven organizational, initiative, and time-management skills required to coordinate projects simultaneously and prioritize work under minimal supervision.
  • Strong assessment (quantitative and qualitative) skills, including program evaluation and performance assessments.
  • Strong written and public speaking skills necessary.
  • Excellent administrative skills, including word processing, data analysis, desktop publishing and experience with databases.
