Job Description

Athabasca University's University Relations department is recruiting for a full-time permanent Community Engagement Advisor.

The Position:



Working closely with the Events and Engagement Specialist, other colleagues in the Strategic Engagement unit, Vice-President University Relations (UR) portfolio, and colleagues across campus, the Community Engagement Advisor is an integral member of AU's Strategic Engagement team, with a core focus on external community engagement and relations in Athabasca and region. The Advisor is the external facing lead for AU events, liaising, managing and developing relationships with vendors, partners, businesses and community engagement. In addition to AU events, the Advisor provides recommendation and support for external initiatives, ensuring AU is supports community priorities in our home community and region. This includes coordinating community sponsorships and in-kind support, presence at select community events, and supporting the development and maintenance of tracking engagements, in collaboration and coordination with colleagues across AU. The Advisor operates in a fast paced, often complex and ambiguous environment, and can balance multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously. It is crucial that the incumbent is a relationally driven, experience focused individual, prioritizing and ensuring best quality of interactions and engagements for meaningful and sustainable community relationships.

Qualifications:



Post-secondary education or three years of experience in event operations, planning, external and/or internal engagement. Demonstrated understanding of a post-secondary and non-profit context, including processes, environment and ways of working. Demonstrated understanding of the community organizations, priorities and areas of engagement in the Athabasca region. Demonstrated understanding of remote and hybrid work, including an understanding of the university environment across Alberta, and an understanding of the partners, constituents and relationships that engage with the university to support community engagement and events.

Relationship-centric approach to all efforts, with a dedication to high-quality customer service. Strong interpersonal communication skills, in emails, documents and verbally. Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and deepen relationships with personal connection, care and support. Excellent attention to detail in tracking, writing and reporting efforts. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities, operationally and relationally. Motivated self-starter, ability to work independently and collaboratively with initiative. Ability to represent, communicate and showcase AU and AU's values with colleagues and externally. bility to problem-solve and adapt, taking in stride occurrences and situations happening at an event or engagement. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as internal or external events require. Ability to travel occasional for work as required.
