Job Description

Job purpose The Community Educator is responsible for community and agency education on: Sexual Health & STBBI, HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Gender and Sexual Diversity and Safer Substance Use. Community and agency education consist of formal presentations, community engagements, awareness events, and informal conversations with clients, coworkers, and public. Duties and responsibilities

  • Engage with community members regarding possible educational opportunities.
  • Create and present educational resources, based in research, to community groups in an approachable and professional manner.
  • Create appropriate presentations tailored to audience.
  • Provide evaluation surveys following education sessions to gather feedback on programming.
  • Follow-up with community partners routinely to offer training for new staff.
  • Help with community engagements, planning, awareness events, and committee work when appropriate.
  • Prepare and distribute safer sex and safer substance using supplies during education sessions and community events.
  • Research practices for continuous professional development relevant to position and organizational mission.
  • Use non-judgmental approach when engaging with clients and community.
  • Document all necessary information for reporting requirements.
  • Prepare harm reduction supplies for distribution to clients and community partners.
  • Provide support for other Northreach staff, as necessary.
Qualifications Qualifications and competencies include:
  • Completion of post-secondary school or currently enrolled in social work, social services, or other relevant field,
  • Experience in teaching/facilitation of small and large groups,
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations (those experiencing homelessness, substance use, mental health, engaged in sex work, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, Indigenous peoples),
  • Strong understanding and advocacy of safer sex and safer drug-using practices,
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, and other STBBI,

Working conditions The position is Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with an half hour for lunch. There may be the occasional off-hours task that is scheduled in advance. Standing, sitting, walking, and driving are all expectations of the role. Due to the nature of living and working in the North, it is also important that the candidate be able to drive a vehicle in all types of weather conditions. Job Type: Full-time Benefits:
