The Program
348-36 Ft McMurray - Supportive Independent Living program
Supports for a young man with limited communication who lives in his family home. Duties include supports with personal care, household tasks, and community membership.
Familiarity with Smith-Magenis syndrome is an asset. Female preferred.
The Position
The Supportive Independent Living Worker teaches life/daily living skills and provides support with meal prep and household tasks, as well as employment coaching.
Candidate must be physically active, based upon the needs of the client. A good understanding of non-verbal clues is an asset in this position.
In Your Role You Will
- Mentor and teach life skills including communication skills, coping with emotions and change, budgeting, household management, boundaries and self care, relationships, self expression, social skills, coping tools, community awareness, personal safety, etc.
- Help find activities of interest.
- Develop life skills and help find volunteer/ employment opportunities.
- Promote inclusion in community activities involving educational, recreational programming and participation in the volunteer sector.
- Link the client to community support services and employment coaching such as resume building or job searches.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- Grade 12 diploma
- or Diploma in Disability Studies or related Social Sciences/Human Services or equivalent.
- 2+ years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver\'s license, Driver\'s Abstract and reliable vehicle.
- MANDT Non violent crisis intervention training
