Battle River Indigenous Relations Council (Battle River IRC) is working with MFN to design and deliver community engagement events focused on Crown consultation, self-governance, and other issues that matter to the Nation.
We are hiring a Community Coordinator/Admin Support person to assist with all aspects of community engagement. This position will suit a motivated problem solver, with a desire to learn about Treaty and self-government.
Roles and responsibilities may change as time goes on. It is expected that the Coordinator will:
Coordinate, plan, and conduct community engagement sessions
Arrange/coordinate venues, catering, travel and set up for community events
Advise on, develop and execute engagement strategies for Youth, Elders, and membership on- and off- reserve
Develop informational materials, including invitations, agendas, newsletters, posters, sign-in and sign-out sheets, brochures and PowerPoint presentations
Take notes and track action items
Support the work of the MFN Treaty 6 Advisory Group and Negotiation Team
Work with administration to coordinate and involve key staff members where needed
Other duties as required
Qualifications
Strong written, computer and verbal communication skills
Strong skills with Microsoft Office (including Word, PowerPoint and Excel), social media
Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
Takes initiative and can operate independently, as well as part of a team
Audio visual equipment skills (setting up mic and speaker, projector and screen)
Valid Drivers' Licence
Ability to travel overnight and out of province
Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check
Assets
Familiarity with subject matter of Treaty and Inherent rights, self-governance, education, health, lands and cumulative impacts, MFN History, Culture or Language
Communications, event coordination, staff/public relations experience
Spoken and/or written Cree
Post-secondary education, in business, marketing, education, lands or communications
This is initially a one-year position with a three-month probationary period. Renewal of the position depends on the availability of funding and performance of the tasks.
The Coordinator must be able to work on-call.
This position is located on-reserve. Travel to North Battleford, Saskatoon and Edmonton will be expected and a reliable vehicle is required.
