Community Coach
to support our
Community Leadership (CL)
program -- an innovative initiative that empowers Autistic youth through skill-building workshops and meaningful volunteer placements with local non-profits.
This is a part-time term position (13 weeks), with the possibility of renewal. Evening availability is required, as programming typically runs between 4 PM and 9 PM. Occasional weekend and daytime hours, as well as local travel, may also be needed.
About the Role
The Community Coach plays a key support role in the delivery of the Community Leadership program. Working closely with the Program Educator, you will help facilitate weekly group sessions, guide participants through volunteer placements, and provide personalized support as they pursue their individual goals.
You will be a consistent presence and mentor, helping participants build confidence, community connections, and transferable skills that support their future success.
Key Responsibilities
Program Support & Facilitation
Attend and support weekly group sessions focused on leadership and employment-readiness.
Assist in the delivery of activities and learning opportunities.
Help set up and maintain an inclusive, supportive program environment.
Provide in-the-moment encouragement and redirection to foster participant growth.
Participant Support & Mentorship
Build positive, respectful relationships with Autistic youth and peer volunteers.
Offer tailored support to help participants reach their goals, as guided by the Program Educator.
Encourage collaboration, self-expression, and community-building among participants.
Accompany and support participants in their community volunteer placements.
Ensure participant needs are understood and responded to with empathy.
Teamwork & Communication
Collaborate with the Program Educator and other staff to support program success.
Communicate regularly about participant progress, needs, and any concerns.
Attend team meetings and contribute to ongoing program improvement.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field (social sciences, education, community development, etc.).
At least 1 year of experience working with youth and/or individuals on the autism spectrum.
Knowledge of career exploration, postsecondary pathways, or community inclusion practices.
Skills & Competencies
Strong commitment to inclusion and neurodiversity-affirming practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Reliable, organized, and confident in providing one-on-one support.
Empathy, patience, and problem-solving abilities.
Certifications & Requirements
Clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector).
Valid Child Abuse Registry Check.
Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
Comfortable with local driving across a range of conditions and communities.
Working Conditions
Mix of in-office, remote, and community-based work.
Evening availability required (typically 4 PM-9 PM).
Occasional day or weekend hours for outreach, events, or travel.
Program delivery may take place across multiple community sites.
