--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This position will be supporting women participating in the Horticultural Apprenticeship Program while at Vanier and then throughout Ontario. 1-year Contract Position: 3 days/ week (24hours) + 4% vacation pay and benefits Anticipated Start Date: April 2023 The Community Apprenticeship program is collaboration partnership with Guelph-Humber College, Vanier Centre for Women and EFRY Hope and Help for Women. This program supports women at Vanier who will be enrolled in the Guelph-Humber Horticultural Apprenticeship Program and through this program, women at Vanier will have the opportunity to complete a level 1 horticultural apprenticeship. Instructors from Humber will facilitate the training for the women at Vanier. EFry Hope and Help for Women will provide the Community Apprenticeship Program
Caseworker for this particular apprenticeship. The successful candidate of this contract will be responsible for providing wraparound services to the women of the apprenticeship while in Vanier as well as, provide exit planning as part of the reintegration process of the apprenticeship program. The caseworker will provide support through the various stages of their apprenticeship and reintegration process, with emphasis placed on stress management, life skills, curriculum support (study habits), employment development, resources, housing, apprenticeship employment, as well as being a link to the participating community supports. Areas of Responsibility:

  • Support the women through the process of their apprenticeship program within a secure custody facility and within the community upon release
  • Support the women through their level one apprenticeship studies component, i.e. homework, time management, stress management, etc.\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Assist the women with their community relationships, employment search, place of residence and employment upon release
  • Maintains and completes confidential client files according to professional works standards, Agency policies and procedures, and the policies and procedures Vanier Centre for Women and the Guelph-Humber College
  • Builds and maintains strong working relations with the community, external stakeholders and other social service agencies
  • Prepares monthly statistical reports, documenting program attendance, for submission to the Manager of Programs
  • Provide information/documentation as required to the Guelph \xe2\x80\x93Humber College and or Vanier Centre for Women
  • Maintains an atmosphere that is non-judgmental and supportive of the emotional and physical well-being and rehabilitation of women who are in conflict with the law
  • Attending regular meetings with collaborative members
  • Engage in regular supervision with the Manager of Community Justice Programs or Designate.
  • Uphold the obligations inherent in Vanier, Agency and program-specific policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff training, workshops, and inter-agency network meetings.
Successful candidates will have:
  • A degree and/or diploma from a University or College in a related field with experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge of the Vanier Centre for Women and demonstrated awareness of relevant legislation including but not limited to the Canadian Criminal Code, Family Law and Ontario, and the Family Services Act
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with community agencies, correction facilities, College partners and other community agencies
  • Assessment/counselling skills to effectively interact with the women \xe2\x80\x93 assess the needs and recommend options within the program or the community which address the same
  • Practical knowledge and experience administering gender specific and responsive programming
  • Knowledge of women\xe2\x80\x99s issues including criminogenic factors.
  • The ability to maintain and encourage confident assessment, counselling and program facilitation skills in order to effectively interact with clients using a trauma-informed approach
  • Ability to handle crisis situations and problem solve with clients
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well and collaborate with diverse community groups and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work with divers populations and communities with an awareness of socioeconomic and cultural barriers
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within a fast past environment with ongoing interruptions and disturbances. Comply with institutions protocols including but not limited to COVID protocols.
  • Excellent planning and time/case management skills
  • Community development and public relation skills
  • Ability to work independently, and as a team player
  • The ability to travel in various communities within Ontario
  • Must possess a valid Ontario driver\xe2\x80\x99s license in good standing and have use of a vehicle with appropriate insurance
  • Valid First Aid/ CPR certification
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), within the last 6 months
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19, and willing to provide proof
  • Proficiency in the French Language is an asset
