There is an opening available for a Community Ambassador position within the Infrastructure Services Department, Operations Division available immediately. The main focus of this role will be to assist with the Community Ambassador Team (CAT) and the following requirements apply:
What you will be doing
--------------------------
Be an Ambassador of the City of Cambridge and provide assistance to members of the public in a helpful manner
Ensure downtown streetscapes, parking lots, walkways and related assets are in a state of good repair, clean, presentable and in a safe condition, working with other City staff and external resources when necessary to ensure so
Respond to and resolve situations resulting from reports initiated from public and city staff for citywide clean-ups relating to bio-hazardous waste materials as per corporate service levels and policies
Pro-active cleanup of debris, litter, bio-hazards on city properties, parkettes, and city facilities
Interpret, update assets and reports in corporate GIS and work management systems
Winter maintenance, including shoveling/snow-blowing/tractor/plow operation and application of de-icers
Grass cutting, vegetation control and maintenance (line trimming/ push mowers/Aquacide weed control, ground pruning trees) of and landscaping of planted and naturalized sites
Cleanliness and safe public access for walkways and city parking lots including washing, sweeping and power-washing
Sidewalk sweeper operation on city owned sidewalks, walkways, courtyards, curblines & parking lots
Garbage and litter collection using refuse packer including picking garage and emptying on-street receptacles
Report illegal behaviour/activities to Waterloo Regional Police and liaise with Municipal By-Law Enforcement for new or ongoing bylaw compliance issues
Daily inspection, reporting and initiation of any required corrective action which may include cleanliness, graffiti, potential hazards, weeds or other issues specific to the aesthetic and experience quality of the downtown core areas
Notify Supervisor and other support resources for assistance as needed
Maintain and clean various required tools and equipment to perform all job activities
Work outdoors in all weather conditions - including rain, snow, cold and hot conditions with appropriate PPE
Other duties as assigned related to the general duties and scope of this role
Education

High school Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Minimum Requirements
------------------------
6 to 12 months of work-related experience
A valid Ontario Class G driver's licence in good standing, with a driver's abstract acceptable to the City (4 or less demerit points may be considered acceptable).
Basic Computer skills/literacy required
Comfortable and demonstrates competency to work in areas where residents experiencing social and mental health situations with compassion towards unhoused residents
Must be able to pro-actively recognize challenging situations with individuals or groups of individuals, avoid confrontations and escalations, and notify appropriate supporting services (i.e. By-Law and/or Police)
Carry a city-issued cellphone and or tablet and/or portable radio
Be able to engage in positive communication with a wide range of members of the public and business communities, provide supportive and helpful communication and reflect high standards of care and maintenance that the City strives to provide in the 3 Core Areas in Cambridge
Capable and available for standby duties as required
Overtime requirements as a condition of employment
Hours of Work

40 hrs/per week, Monday to Sunday, 7-day operation
Shifts can be scheduled between 5:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. 8 hours/day as scheduled
This position is within the outside workers union salary schedule Grade 3 and has an hourly range of: Starting Rate: $30.50
12 Month Rate: $31.46
24 Month Rate: $32.40
