The opportunity: The Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba is looking for a Communications Specialist. This position will primarily support the School\xe2\x80\x99s formal communication needs and will work collaboratively with the School\xe2\x80\x99s Marketing and Communications Team to implement a communication plan to promote the diverse and complementary activities taking place at the Asper School of Business. The qualifications and experience we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:
  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline required.
  • Minimum of two years of directly related experience working in marketing and communications, journalism, or communications and public relations are required, including experience managing social media channels.
  • Minimum one-year experience developing social media plans, deploying content and scheduling of posts is required.
  • Experience using Mailchimp required.
  • Experience using Hootsuite or other social media scheduling platforms is required.
  • Knowledge of Google analytics and experience with digital animation is consider an asset.
  • Knowledge of University regulations and experience in an Academic environment preferred, or experience in a not for profit work environment is considered an asset.
  • Speech writing experience is considered an asset.
  • Public speaking experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience running Zoom meetings and virtual events considered an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Advanced computer skills and demonstrated knowledge of personal computer, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook) design and layout, desktop publishing, displays, reports and web pages, Google Docts/Sheets are required.
  • Professional communication skills, written and verbal is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and patience to work in harmony with all levels of faculty, staff, students and the public required.
  • Strong creative skills required.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media platforms required.
  • Proven and strong attention to detail in written and visual communications is essential.
  • An ability to understand and develop a consistent brand narrative while considering communications nuances between audiences required.
  • Ability to learn and retain very detailed information quickly is required.
  • Proven ability to independently prioritize work and meet deadlines, organizational and time management skills required.
  • Ability to organize and manage projects and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and other communication professionals is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
