Job Summary

The Communications Specialist has an emphasis on developing and executing social media strategies in collaboration with the internal team and external agencies, including proactive content creation and community engagement. Work also involves leading internal and external communications projects, such as team engagement, media relations, special events, and product/service launches.

Duties & Responsibilities

Social Media \xe2\x80\x93 60% of duties

  • Takes a lead role in the development and delivery of organic social media strategy and content to engage and build Porter\xe2\x80\x99s online community
  • Works with internal teams and agency partners to establish and achieve objectives
  • Maintains a robust editorial calendar and stays up-to-date on the latest social media practices
  • Analyzes effectiveness of social media channels through standardized reporting and recommends changes as necessary
  • Monitors and responds to posts and feedback using social media management software, including issues management, in conjunction with the Customer Relations and agency teams
  • Produces multimedia content, including video, for various channels
  • Manages and executes photo/video shoots
  • Identifies social influencers as part of ongoing content and community engagement strategies
  • Consults with Marketing department to facilitate complementary organic and paid social media strategies
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners for content creation
  • Oversee travel for influencers, working with partners for accommodation and experiences
  • Manages relationships with key suppliers \xe2\x80\x93 e.g., social media management software
Communications \xe2\x80\x93 40% of duties
  • Supports overall communications efforts, proactively providing independent advice to mitigate and resolve crises and issues
  • Develops internal and external communications material
  • Leads select communications initiatives for Porter departments and operational bases
  • Assists in planning and execution of internal/external events
  • Provides media relations support by facilitating timely responses and delivering Porter\xe2\x80\x99s messages to its audiences
  • Writes materials for internal and external audiences, including news releases, key messages, intranet, reports, letters and emails
  • Maintains and develops relationships with trade and destination partners
  • Contributes to team engagement initiatives that advance business strategies, including Executive Communications, People & Culture priorities, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Rewards & Recognition programs
  • Administers formal Emergency Response materials for the department by working with the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, and the Safety department

Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma \xe2\x80\x93 Journalism, Communications and/or PR
  • 3 to 5 years of experience working for a brand in social media and Communications/PR
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills; ability to adapt style to a variety of audiences
  • An intuition for engaging content and an understanding of the Porter brand voice
  • Possesses multimedia content development skills for social media that supports Porter\xe2\x80\x99s brand and business operations
  • Ability to bring forward strategic insights and translate them into practical programs
  • Understands SEO, content categorization and structure, content development, distribution and measurement
  • Capable of using graphics/editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Experience developing and managing editorial calendars and organization workflows
  • A strong understanding of the media and social influencer communities
  • Ability to work directly with senior leaders on confidential and time-sensitive projects
  • Proven event management and organizational skills; liaising with suppliers
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments
  • Requirement to track and measure project results
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Flexible to travel within the Porter network on short notice
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
  • Must pass security screening and qualify for secure airport access
