Description
Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Communications, the incumbent develops and executes communications strategies that enhance the visibility of the Department of Medicine (DoM) to its stakeholders and partners. As an experienced professional, the incumbent delivers impactful and creative communications through reports, articles, web presence, social media, and other communications tools that inform, engage, and promote the activities of the Department.
Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary point of contact for DoM communication related activities and establishes positive professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides guidance on best practices and innovative approaches to disseminating information to our members that foster audience growth.
  • Provides communication support to team members by developing strategies and tactics that create awareness of events/programs and engagement opportunities.
  • Plans, creates and disseminates a variety of content including written and visual creative (graphics, images, photos, and videos) across multiple channels.
  • Supports internal communications tools such as the DoM\xe2\x80\x99s internal SharePoint site and its weekly email newsletter.
  • Participates in the organization of the communication team projects and assets including developing and maintaining filing systems, databases and archives.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Strategy and Communications, assists in the development and implementation of a DoM communication plan.
  • Supports the alignment of communications initiatives and strategies with the DoM strategic plan through timely, relevant, and effective placement of content and ease of access to information and updates for all stakeholders.
  • Works closely with communications colleagues at partner organizations such as The Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine.
  • Drives external communications via digital platforms (social media, external website(s), media releases, other communications channels)
  • Develops a social media presence and executes campaigns in alignment with the Departmental communications strategy.
  • Triages and responds to member inquiries and requests and promotes engagement and audience growth on digital platforms.
  • Monitors and reports on social media outreach, including weekly and monthly reporting.
  • Manages vendor relations and budget for social media efforts and social media management tools.
  • Collaborates to route content through appropriate channels, obtain approvals, and ensure the successful flow of information to and among DoM members.
  • Writes copy for social media posts across all networks and ensures accuracy of messaging as well as brand consistency.

Qualifications
  • A post-secondary degree in Communications or Journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of communications and marketing strategies and plans.
  • Experience in internal communications.
  • Exceptional writing skills as they relate to the creation of communication products, including the ability to edit and proofread documents.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr etc.) and knowledge in best practices in digital writing and mobilizing communities online.
  • Strong proficiency in using Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in both official languages (French and English) is considered an asset.
  • Experience writing and executing internal communications plans.
  • Content writing experience for all media platforms.
  • Experience in maintaining a company website and intranet and populating web-based tools.
  • Ability to work with multiple authors and synthesize multiple versions and comments.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to plan and execute work assignments effectively, meet deadlines and work autonomously is essential.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing on complex subjects to enhance the understanding of others.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • A self-starter who displays meticulous attention to detail, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • A portfolio of work available for review.
