Community Living Burlington is seeking a compassionate and organized individual to join our team as a Communications Specialist. The Communications Specialist plays a critical role in developing and implementing effective communication strategies that inform, excite and inspire our employees and other stakeholders by building connections across our strategic priorities. The Communications Specialist is responsible for ensuring clear, consistent, and accurate messaging to employees, stakeholders, and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



Create communication strategies to enhance employee engagement

Handles internal communications to communicate deadlines and initiatives to employees effectively

Works closely with the leadership team to help employees understand our strategic initiatives

Write and edit content for internal employee communications, such as memos and newsletters

Support media relations, press releases and public awareness campaigns

Contribute creative ideas for fundraising campaigns, community events, and annual appeals.

Support data collection and reporting for communications and development outcomes.

Understand the landscape of the Developmental Services sector and maintain awareness of emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities.

Liaise with community partners and other organizations to identify and communicate barriers faced within the sector.

Handle communications with other stakeholders including the Board and families

Draft content for CLB website

Manage and create content for social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn

Monitor social media channels for trends, insights, and opportunities

Create and oversee social campaigns; tracking and analyzing social media metrics to measure the success of campaigns

Working with the Leadership team as appropriate to develop and implement marketing and communications plans to support the Agency's strategic objectives and engage both internal and external audiences.

Stay informed about emerging social media platforms, tools, and trends

Liaise with Colleges/Universities to attract potential candidates, participates in job fairs

Perform other duties, special projects and responsibilities, as required

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree or a minimum college diploma in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, digital communications, Marketing, or a related field required.

Experience:

1-3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations (experience in nonprofit or developmental services preferred).

Experience creating content for social media, newsletters, and websites.

Familiarity with donor communications, fundraising campaigns, or advocacy work is a plus.

Knowledge of issues affecting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families is highly valued.

Skills:



Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.

Ability to create accessible, audience-appropriate content.

Proficiency with digital tools (e.g., Canva, social media platforms).

Advanced digital/social content creation including a strong social media best practices and trends across social media and web platforms including Facebook/Threads, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Media relations and public speaking abilities.

Collaborative mindset and ability to work across teams and with diverse stakeholders
