About the team



The Federation Communications team works to engage and inform members and the public about issues affecting education in Saskatchewan and the work of teachers. This is done through social media, advertising, awareness campaigns, and media relationships to help mobilize public support and ensure a prominent voice for teachers. The Communication team frequently works alongside the design and production team.


What you'll do



The Federation is in the midst of a multi-year website renewal project. In collaboration with external partners from UX, design & development, and change management fields, the focus of the project is to improve user experience and accessibility on the website through strategic and streamlined content, improved functionality and process improvements. This is a high-impact initiative that will significantly enhance how the Federation communicates with and serves its members online.


The Communications Officer, Web Renewal is responsible for planning, developing strategic communication plans, writing, and developing engaging content to promote the organization's brand, activities and projects. This role is assigned to the Web Renewal Project Phase 2 and will provide communications support in relation to the development of the new website, including content creation.


Responsibilities include:


Work with the project team and relevant business units to consolidate and amalgamate existing content and develop new material for the Federation's new website. Ensure all content is relevant and consistent in terms of style, brand compliance, quality and tone of voice, and optimized for search and user experience as well as follows best practice readability rates. Create strategic communications plans to support the work of the Federation and enhance member communication. Support communications needs of Federation internal committees and groups. Write, edit and distribute content, including publications, promotional content, website content, speaking notes, briefs, presentations, key messages and other marketing material that communicates information regarding web renewal as well as the organization's other programs, services and initiatives. Create and implement communications strategies for Federation-led events. Contribute to the planning, promotion and execution of a broad range of communication projects and tactics. Review and analyze web and social analytic data. Coordinate graphic design and promotional material production to ensure Federation guidelines and standards are met. Collaborate with Federation staff to meet the needs of the membership and advocate for public education in Saskatchewan. Seek opportunities to enhance the Federation's brand and reputation. Maintain awareness of news, events and current high-profile activities. Perform other duties supporting the Communications unit in the delivery of projects and activities where appropriate in relation to the fulfillment of the Federation's marketing and communication efforts

What you'll bring




An undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or English, combined with 2-3 years of relevant experience and evidence of strategic planning and implementation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and analytics is required. This position could require some travel throughout the province. Professional, creative and concise writing skills. Strong communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal, communications and public relations skills. Robust consultation and development of project management skills. Detail oriented and ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of communications strategy and implementation. Ability to collaborate effectively and efficiently. Ability to establish strong working relationships. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Ability to manage time and multiple tasks appropriately.
